Have you had your [s]microchip[/s] vaccine yet?

Just seen a government claim that 19 out of 20 over 50s have had the jab:
All over-50s and high-risk groups in UK offered vaccine ahead of target date | Coronavirus | The Guardian

Must admit, I'm a bit doubtful about that, not out of some conspiraloonery, more that you never get that high a figure for anything involving millions of people. I'm guessing it certainly doesn't include those not registered with the NHS, those living here 'illegally' etc. Anyway, a job for that More or Less programme...

Posted in the Covid UK thread but for those who missed it:

I've just booked both jabs despite what the site says. I'm not 50 yet.

Was a but awkward cos if you can't book the second it won't let you book either, so you may need to change time or date or even location of your second. Mine are at different places, six weeks apart.

Worth a try, eh.

ETA got the heads-up from a hospital worker. It's over 45s

You can only go on the figures you've got so can't take into account those who aren't registered. Not saying that those figures are right though.

Complete pain to use the website. Using my NHS number and postcode, it kept offering slots, then stating they weren't available.
Finally I used a different postcode about 20 miles away and it immediately gave me the option of booking at my local pharmacy i.e. 20 miles from the postcode I entered and I successfully got a slot.

The figures are impressive however you look at them, but I'm guessing from the bit at the bottom they are simply dividing the estimated population sizes in those areas by vaccinations given. It's the population size bit of the equation that may be a bit wonky. Anyway, all speculation on my part, it's just that the number of refusniks, people in transit, those with conditions stopping them getting a vaccine feels like it might be more than 5%.

Yeah i had simalar problems. Nearest center to me only had slots at 2am to 3am! I also selected a time at another center only for it to have gone by next page!

Eventually i booked my tests at 2 different centers both of which are a bit further away but i have a car so not end of the world and the times were more reasonable.

I think i got on in time before it got really busy though.

I've had a several texts asking me to book in for my second dose. It's a month early though as I only had my 1st on the 15th Feb and it only lets me select a date this week, not anything further in the future.

ha yes I suppose that's what I meant. I presume the wouldn't be inviting me for it if it wasn't the right time.
A friend who got his a week after you just got a text about booking his second and he's sorted for next week. I got mine done round the same time as him but haven't heard anything yet -- happy to wait until I hear from them. (I do also wonder if this is maybe dependent on which vaccine/supplies as he got AZ and I got Pfizer but who knows.)

I couldn't select another date at same location as my first jab so i booked my second jab at a different location.
Yeah, I should've done that. I was panicking a bit tbh as the site was so up and down. I'm assuming that going onto the site and trying to book a second now will / could cancel the first booking, so will just hang on 'til I've had my first jab.

I don't know. I guess now you are "in the system" they may email or text you later about your second jab.

I guess it's capacity management. They had some days with some pretty massive peaks of first jabs. If you can move some of the second jabs forward a bit when you're able to then it takes off the requirement to ensure sufficient supplies to meet those same peaks exactly 12 weeks later.

Yes, I did a shift at our local centre on Sunday, it was very quiet, no queues and almost entirely very old people and some NHS staff. This morning there wa a call out to sign up for shifts as it was going to get really busy with the next age group coming through. So it would have made sense to try and move some 2nd doses forward, supply permitting.

There does appear to be some local prioritisations going on as apparently we have managed to vaccine the entire police and fire services, whilst still maintaining a good position on the over 50s leaderboard...

Just requested, via the new site , for 4th May . Got to wait to be contacted
"Espere até ser contatado pelo Serviço Nacional de Saúde no número XXXXXX018."

Is there a shortage of vaccine going on? I'm 45, so I became eligible a week ago, but I went in for minor surgery and I've only today decided I'm up for it. But there don't seem to be any slots in my council area for the first dose, and not even in neighbouring council areas for the second, so it's not really very practical for me to book.

Is that just how it's always been?

It's not a mispronunciation. Don't you use the word 'jaggy' to mean spiky in English? Thistles or holly trees are jaggy. By analogy an injection with a spiky needle is a jag. Tbh I probably more often say 'jab' than 'jag' anyway... I remember having an argument with my Scots lecturer at uni about whether saying 'jab' instead of 'jag' was 'a bit English'
