Handforth Parish Council meeting - hilarious zoom video

still unsure of the mysterous figure with his back turned, blair witch style, at the beginning. Perhaps that's what happens when you have The Authority taken away. or he's having a quick wank.

What do Parish Council's actually have authority over? Bit worrying if everyone on them is over 70, can't imagine it provides for much diversity of thought.

mine runs the local park / community centre and allotments, and gives small scale grants for small scale things locally, and possibly maintains a couple of bus shelters.

parish councils get consulted on planning matters and that sort of thing, but i'm not entirely sure just how much influence they really have, and whether that influence is quite in the same scale that parish councillors think it is.

not sure i've had to vote in a parish council election since i've been here, which suggests it's mostly 'elected unopposed' or co-opted members.

As a tier 3 local authority not a lot, things like looking after the village hall, open spaces, play areas, allotments, bus shelters, dog poo bins, and the likes. They can vote on things they have no power over, such as planning applications, which has to be considered by the the higher tier councils, such as tier 2 district & tier 1 county councils, that actually rule on such matters.
