Handforth Parish Council meeting - hilarious zoom video

she has that 'local busy body' vibe which actually i have always admired/liked. i was involved locally in community work for a while and those people are actually incredibly valuable. they got so much done and put so much pressure in the right places, often with barely a word of thanks from the community. What did one of the greeks say about wisdom - no wisdom if you think about only yourself, part wisdom if you think only of you and your family, full wisdom if you think about your community. or something. or some such shit.

she speaks very well, good luck to her.

i'm definitely moving into the She Has Authority camp.
moral authority for sure
but if youre going to do a power grab based on unacceptable behaviour and kick out the chair and vice chair you cant fudge it and elect a new chair for just one meeting
she kicked them out two meetings in a row! (id love to see the previous meeting)
what happens now?
there should be some kind of formal complaints procedure against the chair, and possibly vice chair too
they remain the official chairpersons
her reign of zoom-control is doomed once covid passes, or once the chair calls a zoom meeting and has the zoom link power to himself - hell be able to kick her out at a whim!!
All the petty squabbling kind of reminds me of many posters on this website.
piss off

the plot thickens.

As it was an extraordinary meeting called by two councillors, presumably called because the chairman refused to call a meeting despite a request in writing - then I suspect Jackie Weaver did have the authority. I say this as someone stupid enough to have sat on standing orders committees, though nothing as exciting as a Cheshire Parish council.

Even after she'd passed the authority on to the chairman???

Does his authority stand in an extraordinary meeting that he claims is illegal? (It's perfectly legal, I suspect). Especially if they've spent the previous meeting have a circular argument about whether they can have an EM or not? In an EM which the chair refuses to convene and then claims erroneously is illegal, is the chair the chair?

This all reminds me of tales from Selling Parish Council near where my fam live down in Kent.

There's a full account here in the local hyper-local online rag and two of the more striking aspects of reports of councillor, Amanda Saunders are:

Her first complaint, immediately after she was dismissed, was over the 1993/1994 council audit. She filed an eight point complaint with the external auditor. Apart from some minor procedural issues, Price Waterhouse rejected her complaints. The cost to Selling Parish Council was £11,239 plus VAT, increasing the council tax for each house in the parish by £16.50.

and

The recent minutes of Selling Parish Council meetings show that she has routinely voted against the rest of the councillors on most areas of council business. According to the minutes of the winter 2017 meeting, it appears that she even voted against her own proposal.
:D

That's nice. I always thought it'd look something like this:
