Glastonbury 2005

Well, the line-up isn't going to make me rush for a ticket...still will though. April 3rd...

Fuck the lineup. Vibe's where its at.

Remember, all pre Glasto publicity focusses only on the top couple of acts on the top two or three main stages. But further down the bill on every stage, including smaller stages that are never mentioned by the soddin NME, are all sorts of weird and wonderful not quite so well known acts .... some of whom you'll never have heard of but you'll enjoy all the more because of that ...

 :)

Well, I'm convinced there will be acts well worth seeing but I find it easier to get even more excited when there is an act I'm really really interested in seeing...

Do completely see your point though

Almost certainly idle speculation, and already dismissed by Glasto organisers, but worth considering - particularly if you are a U2 fan:
U2 world tour hits the UK
Tuesday 14th June, Manchester, City Of Manchester Stadium;
Saturday 18th June, Twickenham Stadium;
Tuesday 21st June, Glasgow, Hampden Park;
*****GLASTONBURY: June 24-26*****
Wednesday 29th, Cardiff, Millenium Stadium.

Now, they aren't a million miles away, and U2 were definitely rumoured to appear. The band's on tour to promote their next album, and while not perhaps my ever-most liked act, they are one of the UK's biggest (irish, actually),

I seem to recall the mooted Glasters appearance was dismissed as speculation, because of "tour commitments".

Any news here? Or am I just losing it again?

(PS: Also expect Rolf Harris on Saturday, we think. I love Rolf.)

Mmmm, let's see. LT photocard? Gym membership card? Don't fancy bringing my passport but if that's what it takes....

Minor crisis coz I'm going to a wedding in Nuneaton on Saturday 2 April but I've found someone to drive back to London after the party so that's okay.
Really looking forward to the ticket scrum this year now that we know it's not on next.

So, they have bands at Glastonbury do they? Well, well, well.

U2 are down to play Croke Park, Dublin, on Friday 24 June (Glasto Friday), with the following two days left blank in their schedule, BUT word also circulates on efestivals about an entertainment licence at Croke Park having been applied for to the authorities in Dublin covering the following two days.

They will surely want to maximise their Irish audience, so ....

No U2 at Glasto. Quash that rumour.

Update on the photo ID thing -- only passports, photo-driving licences and the (new) Glasto ID card will be acceptable ...

BBC story

There's a thread about this aspect in General as well.

Argh.

*grumbles*

Needed a bump from page 3.

EFestivals have a trackrecord of being reliable with their lineup rumours (Neil has good contacts), and today they are predicting the Pyramid Stage headliners :

Fri -- White Stripes
Sat -- Coldplay
Sun -- Erm ... Kylie

Before any died in the wool Glasto hater uses the above to sneer at the festival, I'll say that I like many Glasto regulars don't give a shit about the headliners and never did. Sometimes they have people I want to see (eg Radiohead in 2003) more often I'm indifferent, as this year (bar the White Stripes, who I'd be curious to see).

But there'll be plenty happening on lots of other stages.

I read an interview the other week in – I think – the NME where Bono said that the conditions weren't right for playing Glasto. He was a bit cagey about what these 'conditions' were, but it all came across as a bit precious...

Edit: have tried to find a link, but with no success.

The conditions are 'greed for selling expensive tickets to Dubliners heading for Croke Park on Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June'

A really serious condition :D

Meanwhile, I look forward to the mad scramble on April 3rd and suffering hours of agony oline/on mobiles trying to fling a lot of money at Glasto for expensive tickets :D

Oops .... :p

At least some of it will go to good causes though

And we get a lot more than U2 for it ...

Help!

Increasingly firm rumours today that New Order will be playing ... :)

William, I'm Bronwen, enchanted. Listen, you know your shit (note 'your' not 'you're') and I was wondering if you could give me a crash course on getting tickets from where I'm sitting (in Ireland). Would be much appreciated and I'll repay you in cookies and mixtapes. ;)

Hello Bronwen, I wish I could help on the getting tickets thing, but honestly, I reckon I'm in the same dog eat dog position as anyone else! :(

Standard advice would be to get a BROADBAND connection, keep the whole of Sunday 3 April from 9 am (UK time, if Ireland is different??) free, keep on trying, and also get the overseas ticket telephone number nearer the time, from either the official Glastonbury site or from efestivals, see 'Festival Season 2005' thread on this old music forum here on U75 for links. Keep hitting redial until you get bored of it, AND BEYOND THAT! While simultaneously multitasking on the PC ...

Keep reading this thread as it goes along, as advice and tips are likely to be posted here. Also keep a U75 window open on T-Day itself, as you never know what advice may come up in the moment of crisis! ;)

EFestivals message also worth registering on for the same reason, well before April 3 ....

Glastonia?

Dandy.

You've been very helpful. You should do this as a living. (Do you think that someplace, sometime, it'll be possible for everyone to do just what they want and manage to get paid for it? I live in hope).

Regards!

I have now made plans to return straight after the wedding party on 2 April so will be at the computer with "refresh" finger poised on the dot.

Ooooh, White Stripes and Kylie, I'd go for that if I can prise myself away from the stone circle. I've already (hopefully) booked the time off work.

Worth pointing out that on the *all new* glasto website, they're no longer mentioning April 3rd at all, but saying they'll let us know 'early Feb'.

T-Day ...

From everything we're hearing so far, I'd be AMAZED if it wasn't April 3 though ... nothing on eFestivals yet to suggest even a possibility of it being a different date than that. If the date does change, it's contrary to all previous information ...

Will keep this thread posted. :)

I've been beavering away doing a little FAQ project with pictures on TOS. Not particularly dial-up friendly I'm afraid but I'd welcome comments & constructive criticism.

Only had a chance to breeze through it but it looks like a great guide :)

All the pics and talk have got me right in the Glasto mood

Should start planning what I'm gonna take sometime soon.... :D
