F1 2022

I really like Leclerc, but it would be great if Sainz could catch some good luck for once this season.
Yeah, he needs to pull something out of the bag soon to avoid being consigned to the role of perennial no.2 driver, which Ferrari are always so willing to constrain drivers into. I don’t know really what it is with LeClerc, just maybe this “nice young boy” PR image seems so fake to me.

I first took against him when he pushed Lewis off the track to prevent him overtaking at the 2019 Monza GP. Dirty driving that any other driver would certainly get penalised for, but due to said “whiter than snow” nice young boy public image and the stewards being afraid to upset the Ferrari fans at Monza, he escaped with no penalty.

well it’s unreasonable I know, and LeClerc has as much right to have his success as any other driver, but I’ll be cheering on Sainz for a win personally, as Lewis seems to have no chance this year.

Strategy guide for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix

Race engineers and strategists are expected to endure an exhausting afternoon at today’s inaugural Miami Grand Prix not just due to the sweltering heat in Florida, but also for the complexity of the possible race strategies. F1Technical’s Balázs Szabó assesses the possible scenarios that today’s race in Miami might present. For the very first visit to the eagerly-anticipated Miami street circuit, Pirelli has chosen the three tyres in the middle of the range: P Zero White hard is the C2, P Zero Yellow medium is the C3, and P Zero Red soft is the C4. This combination is the most commonly-used one all year, and also the most versatile. The 5.41-kilometre Miami International Autodrome incorporates 19 corners, three straights, elevation changes and a tricky chicane. The track that has been built around the Hard Rock Stadium Complex in Miami Gardens is a challenging circuit due to its tight confines and high-speed sections. Top speeds are expected to be in the region of 320kph with an average of around 223kph and drivers on full throttle for approximately 58% of the lap. Turns 11 and 17 are the two main overtaking opportunities, with three DRS zones.

Yesterday’s qualifying session for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix saw Charles Leclerc lead a Ferrari one-two with all the cars using the P Zero Red soft tyre from start to finish of the session. The championship leader set the inaugural fastest lap record for the new Miami circuit in Q3 with a time of 1m28.796s. As for the best race strategy, it will be a tough call to make for a number of reasons. The weather should be a bit cooler than on Saturday, but still over 30 Celsius degrees. However, there is some chance of rain which could hit the track exactly during the race. Furthermore, engineers can not rely on previous race data and the second practice session that usually sees drivers conduct race run simulations was interrupted by red flags. Pirelli estimates that it will be very difficult to choose between the one- and two-stopper with the latest appearing to be the slightly faster strategy. However, given the high possibility of safety car interruptions, the Milan-based manufacturer thinks that the most flexible option will be to begin on the medium and then go onto the hard, which leaves the possibility open for a final stint on the medium again, or even the soft tyre if the last stop is close enough to the end of the race.

Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Mario Isola commented: “It was a tightly-fought qualifying session where we saw the grip recovery concept that we have built into the tyres come to the fore: namely, the ability of the tyres to complete a number of push laps before a cool-down period, and then be able to push again with all the grip recovered and no loss of performance. This was particularly evident in Ferrari’s qualifying strategy, where Leclerc completed three runs in Q1 on the same set of tyres while Sainz completed four. They then did three runs each in Q2 and two runs in Q3: in some of the hottest track temperatures that we have seen all year. Strategy tomorrow is not straightforward, but it looks as though a two-stopper will be the quickest way to go, with all three compounds potentially playing an important role,” the Italian concluded.

Aston Martin Is In Huge Financial Trouble

According to its own financial reports, it's almost $1.2 billion in debt.

Aston Martin has never quite had a good grip on finances, but when Lawrence Stroll invested heavily in the company, he brought in Tobias Moers from Mercedes-AMG. This helped streamline a great many projects, but the CEO has now been replaced by a former Ferrari executive, suggesting that he wasn't as effective as hoped. And after recent comments from Formula 1 drivers that the Vantage safety car is too slow, the news is negative on almost all fronts. It's quite clear that the brand needs the support of its partners more than ever, and based on the automaker's own financial reports, that support can't come soon enough.

In the first quarter of this year, Aston Martin recorded a net loss of £47.7 million (around $58.7 million at the time of writing) and net debt of over £956.8 million (around $1.1 billion), an increase from the £722.9 million (approximately $890.5 million) net debt owed during the same period in 2021. Net debt, by the way, is the term used to describe the debt that would remain if a company combined all its cash and sold off all its assets at their current value to pay its creditors. Essentially, this means that Aston Martin is so far in the red that it would still owe a fortune even if it were liquidated tomorrow morning.

The embattled automaker has reported an operating loss every year bar two since 2010. Worse still, its stock price has collapsed by 90% since its initial product offering (IPO) in 2018, and its market value has dropped from around $5.3 billion to around just $1.3 billion. That's just $100 million off its net debt, which means the company could soon owe more than it's worth. So how did we get here? Well, there are a number of factors. The DBX SUV hasn't been the cash cow it was expected to be, with the facility that produces it capable of building 5,000 SUVs per annum but the brand only delivering around 3,000 worldwide in 2021. The Valkyrie has faced endless development challenges and even broke down twice during its Goodwood debut. Then the Valhalla was extensively redesigned, costing yet more money. We could go on and on, but with the recent confirmation that Audi is interested in taking ownership of the F1 team, there could still be a way for Aston to get its head above water.

hmm is Mclaren not far behind

odd car producing practises and thinking a high end Suv is the answer

think the range rover and lamborghini have that market tied up

Yes, McLaren is also in trouble and I can see the Mumtalakat Investment Company wanting to get out before things get worse (its not like Mansour Ojjeh is there any more) so Audi may well have a way in to buying the company.

I want to see Jamie Chadwick in F1 by 2024

She has won both W-series races in Miami this weekend and was well ahead of the nearest driver, she won by 3 seconds. I think it would be a massive step-up for her but I bet she'd run in the midfield in her first season depending on her team. Its time I believe and she has proved herself by winning the last 2 W-series 2020 & 2021.

Word. My 9 year old daughter has asked me so many times why there aren’t any women racing in F1 and I find it difficult to answer. Because it’s stupid that they aren’t.

A massive side effect of the pay to play syndrome F1 suffers from.

Anthem watch: The usual rendition full of pomp and braggadocio.

Sung with enthusiasm and dripping sentimentality, but without finesse.

Unable to stick to the tune and meter of the original.

Suitable background song for the invasion of a small country.
