Bernie being kept in the dark
In a typical Bernie type interview, he claims he has been promoted to such a high position in the company he can't see what's going on below and says people have been told not to discuss things with him.

Confirmed sources claim Alonso will race at La Mans
Fernando will drive at the 2018 La mans 24 hour and will be in a Toyota and the McLaren Formula 1 driver's talks with Toyota have extended to the possibility of Alonso doing most of the World Endurance Championship in 2018 (that seems rather unlikely). No contract has been formally signed yet but sources say that the Le Mans deal, at least will happen. Alonso will drive the Toyota car in a test in Bahrain on 19 November, the day after this season's final WEC race. "Le Mans is agreed" said a source close to Toyota "The rest of the season is still being negotiated but it looks like he will do most of the races".

Speaking at Interlagoa yesterday Alonso said "So far, nothing to comment. We will see. Just rumours". A Toyota spokesman said "We have no comment to make on this speculation".

3 bidders interested in buying Interlagos
According to reports on the radio this morning 3 groups are interested in buying the circuit. Pressure on public funds, amid an uncertain economic climate in Brazil, has led to a proposal to raise cash through the privatisation of real estate, including the circuit, owned by the city. The three involved are believed to be a mix of Brazilian and international groups, with former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone understood to still be interested in making a bid. The tender for the sale of the circuit will include a clause that makes it the buyer's responsibility to guarantee the race long-term. Interlagos has a deal to host F1 until 2020, though its future on the calendar has been in doubt because of the slow progress of the redevelopment programme.

Promoter Tamas Rohonyi believes the circuit has a bright future, "The municipal government keeps working on the circuit. The current phase of redevelopment started three years ago and will stretch into next year, with the new garages to be built ahead of next year's race". Organisers say this year's event is close to a sell-out, with attendance set to be at its highest for five years, and Rohonyi is interested in extending F1's stay at Interlagos. "We would like to keep the race beyond 2020," he said. "We have the interest, we're close to be being full this year. But it depends on the terms of the contract".

Senna the musical opens in Rio de Janeiro
Since Ayrton Senna's tragic death in 1994, there have been some amazing tributes to his life, most notably the 2010 documentary, Senna. Now it seems there's another tribute to legend, this time in the form of a musical. "Ayrton Senna, O Musical" is a Portugese-language musical created by Aventura Entretenimento the same firm responsible for Brazilian productions of The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz. It opened yesterday in Rio, I haven't read any reviews yet but as Senna is a God in Brazil I can't see any bad review in the near future :)

Renault / Toro Rosso argument
There has been a falling-out between the teams over the power-unit, with Renault claiming Toro Rosso's problems are because of the way Toro Rosso run the unit but with Toro Rosso claiming Renault hasn't given them upgraded parts.

Renault’s Cyril Abiteboul view:
“We are not happy with that situation, and we take it very seriously. Toro Rosso has suffered in the last couple of events much more issues than other teams, and obviously when it’s happening, because of the regulations, and because of parts availability and production lead time, that’s causing issues. We do have a little bit of a concern about the way that our engine is operated in the Toro Rosso car, which may explain why we have had so many issues coming from Toro Rosso specifically. There are never coincidences in this sport. We were not assuming that we would have the issues that we have had, and therefore at some point you have to be managing with the parts you have. It’s only been two weeks since Mexico, we sent the parts back to Viry, we worked on a bank holiday in order to sign off as many of the parts that had seen some issues as possible. With the logistics and the timing issues there’s a limit to what we can do and the number of new parts that we can bring, obviously. It’s a snowball effect. Once that snowball starts to roll, it’s very difficult to stop it. We are doing our best in order to contain it, but there will be a limit in the way we can mitigate the consequences of what has happened, which we are still trying to understand”.

Toro Rosso's view:
"It comes as a big surprise to the team that Cyril Abiteboul has suggested to the media that the problems Toro Rosso suffers with the power unit are primarily team related, and the way in which the power unit is operated in the STR12 chassis. We would like to clarify that all the MGU-H and shaft failures Toro Rosso has recently suffered are not associated with how the team is operating or with how the power unit is integrated in the chassis. Nothing has been changed or altered in this installation during the 2017 season, other than cooling improvements mid-season. Since the summer break Toro Rosso has suffered continuous power unit related failures, and the resulting grid penalties has cost the team points and relative positions in the constructors' championship. One of the primary reasons for the issues we are seeing is the lack of new power unit parts available. In Toro Rosso's case the team is constantly having to change parts from one PU to another during the weekend and, on many occasions, is forced to run old specification assemblies. The last race in Mexico saw only two cars out of six finish the race, highlighting the poor reliability. We mustn't forget that they are fighting with Toro Rosso for a better position in the constructors' championship. As suggested by Mr Abiteboul the situation may not be a coincidence, but it is certainly not due to STR's car".

This story will run and run over the weekend, both teams are now saying things like "this could break the contract" (no power-unit for the last race) and just before FP3, Cyril Abiteboul and Helmut Marko were seen to be having a heated argument with Abiteboul looking very irate and stabbing his finger at Marko.

Oh Dear - there is an old tachioed git behind the curtain I fear....

Ted qualifying notebook Brazil

Penalties awarded so far
Lewis will start from the pitlane
Pierre Gasly shall be demoted 25 places after a fresh power unit was installed
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Toro Rossos's Brendon Hartley both drop ten spots on the grid following engine element changes
Lance Stroll will drop 5 place for a new gearbox

If there are no more penalties this is what the starting grid should look like

I missed most of the build up. I thought it started at 3:30 when it actually stated at 2:30.

The way Sky list it in the schedule is very misleading and confusing and annoying.

There was a good feature on the F1 TV production set up. I didn't know that all the replays are organised in Biggen Hill and sent back out to the live presentation crew, wherever in the world they are, who slot it into the live feed.

Worth tracking down if you can.

I was interested in seeing that piece. I may be able to track it down on catch up or on the Sky Sports website.

Bit grumpy today, the C4 highlights are way last my bedtime.

I would have liked to see if Hammy could fight his way through the field.
