Domestic and European Rugby

A big boo to whoever is in charge of the TV negotiations as no weekly highlights show or live games on terrestrial tv.

Allegedly some stuff will be on the Premiership rugby website which is better than nothing but not quite the same.

I've just been watching highlights on the premiership YouTube channel for the last couple of years. The quality has improved a bit, but sometimes I do wonder who the fuck is putting them together - things like 3 runs of the same try from different angles including the build up for 1.5 minutes, then the penalty kick that won the game with absolutely zero intro to explain how the penalty came about.
At least they stopped putting the score in the title (think it was BT who were doing that when they were doing highlights, but still, wtaf)

Nice vid Whagwan lovely to see the boy giving it loads :)

England women are playing their autumn internationals at premiership grounds. One match in Worcester, another in Northampton, one in Exeter and one somewhere else I’ve forgotten. A good way of growing the profile of the women’s game, and hopefully they will be well supported.

I’m tempted to go to the game in Exeter on Sunday 31st October, against New Zealand which should be the pick of the games.

Ooh, only just saw this. Urban day out?!

E2A: watched the highlights of the Scotland - Ireland game as they battled for a chance to be in with last gasp WC qualification. The last couple of minutes - post-match - were fucking heartbreaking, seeing how much it meant to all of them and only one could go through. Was a great advert for the spirit of rugby at a time when I'm struggling to give a shit about international men's games. Lions was shit, SA are the Exeter of countries, England team is 50% cunts ... really lost interest.

It’s only on the BT sport channels I think. I don’t even think there will be any channel 5 live games as there have been previously in the latter stages of the season. Not going to help growing the game is it.

Channel 4 should have the live European games still I think.
Whilst I watch the C5 live games when they're on, my most regular outlet was the Monday night highlights. Despite the adverts it was one of the better sport highlight packages I've seen.

I hope my rugby watching is not reduced to the 6N and the occasional Autumn international (if indeed they're on Freeview).

As an aside, someone on Freeview show as much wheelchair rugby as you can!

Edited because I had initially advocated the screening of something called "basketball rugby", which as far as I'm aware has yet to be invented.

I was tempted to go but not sure I can manage the walking / standing at the moment, it's a bit worse in cold temperatures.

I have to admit I don't follow the women's game that much, but I will try and change that this season. My eldest Niece has just started rugby tots as part of her pathway to become England captain so I should pay more attention!

Yeah, I booked tickets in the stands on the side of the pitch (see more of the game than sitting behind the posts) and I was doing so was thinking it would be no good for you at the moment. It's also always bloody cold up at Sandy Park for some reason, will be artic by the end of October.

I enjoyed the women's 6N and you could actually watch all the games this year as the beeb had the rights. It's a massively uneven contest due to the levels of professionalism (think only England all have contracts) but it has lots of of open running and refreshingly lacks almost all of the shit behaviour in the men's game. I like it.

It's worth doing, the quality has really improved over the last few years - that Scotland Ireland game was tremendous particularly the end as fucthest8 said.

You and two sheds have convinced me - I will make sure I give my attention to the woman’s 6N. Big fan of running rugby. That was the way I liked to play.

A pity about the game, I can’t stand the Exeter style of rugby, and the Native American branding is an embarrassment so would have been good to watch a different team. Hopefully I can get to a game a bit later on in the season, I will of course support the opponent.

Agreed on both counts. Bored of hearing about how Chiefs is just the old name for the first team, yeah, I get that you dullards but why the Native American stuff then? How about some Anglo-Saxon motifs, bit more appropriate no??

Exceptional performance from Harlequins against Bristol tonight, who seriously lost their heads in the second half.

Quins were 21-0 down after half an hour, and then Tomaso Allen went off with a HIA. Marcus Smith, the golden boy, comes on, they get a try back and at half time it’s 24-7 to Bristol.

In the second half they scored 45 unanswered points, including at least 2 tries whilst Bristol had a player sin binned. Talking of discipline, I’m not sure Quins even conceded a penalty in the second half. Utterly dominant at the breakdown, and so ruthless with turnover ball which they frequently converted to points. A total of 8 tries scored, and a further two disallowed for forward passes.

I’ve noticed that some of the Saracens fans wear a Fez. Not sure about the origin of their name, but at best it’s slightly shakey ground.

Just watched the highlights of that, bloody hell. 20 points up, to losing by 20 points. I know someone on here who won't have enjoyed that!

As for Saracens and Fez wearing ... you just know they're the kind of arseholes who will tell you it's funny and you're humourless for not thinking so.

Looks like the twattish Native American headdress fetish of the Chiefs is being made an issue by some Wasps fans, good on them.

If they’re named after some Ancient British chiefs why not have a novelty hat inspired by a stone circle, there’s tons of them up on Dartmoor.

Just a post for information really, I’ve discovered that the French rugby league the Top 14 is available via Free Sports - channel 64 where it’s available - also via an App / player etc on smart devices.

Finally catching up with the Prem highlights from the weekend.

Fantastic comeback from London Irish against Saracens. From 34-8 down with 14 men, they came back to draw 34-34 in the final 20 minutes, their final try in the 85th minute. A hat trick for Kyle Rowe, a Scottish ex-sevens player. His second being one of the finer solo scores you’ll see. From 3:35

well that's the chmapions cup turning into a coplete mess
ECPR are just like the tories, fucking incompetent and not interested in what their meant to be doing.

They could save it by making it a straight knock out comp like last year when they stumbled on a workable format.

Agree that would be the easiest to understand. Don’t make your product unintelligible to otherwise you’ll never gain new fans from the casual viewer on terrestrial tv

I was reading that French interest in the cup has evaporated as it’s not on terrestrial tv, while the Top 14 is and that the prize money is piss poor to the top 14. I thought the whole point of changing the HEC to ERCC was more sponsors, more viewers watching better games.

Its the way to go. Get the sport on terrestrial. I think the audiences for the URC on RTE or TG4 are massive.

I think in the UK you can see the odd game on S4C or BBC Alba / Wales. Never actually tried to watch them.

For such a one-sided contest Bath-Leinster was good fun to watch. The undoubted highlight was the red getting crushed between a Bath back and a Leinster lock.

I had been wondering if any Premiership games would get on Freeview this year, especially as the highlights have been dropped. Lo and behold next Sunday ITV are putting Sale-Leicester on their main channel.

Highlights will be back too on Mondays on ITV4 :)
