Domestic and European Rugby

It may just be me bah humbug but it seems the highlights have less actual rugby now with all the presenters and interviews of fans and digressions into food habits. It's like when designers get involved with passing on information in any way - you get a nice looking package with loads of nice white space but 4-point text giving instructions and health warnings

Get in, got all my ballot tix for the women's world cup next year. If nothing seriously goes wrong for them I'll be watching England quarters and semis...

Trying to appeal to the yoof with a lot of bantz I think

As you’re posting on a message board in 2024 you may not be the target market  :(

Read somewhere how the viewing figures had been plummeting so I guess this might be a last roll of the dice for the format?

worked before when they had two knowledgeable and funny presenters who made interesting conversational comments before introducing deeper coverage of the games.

The champions cup continues into the second week

I am thrilled to be watching Toulouse on Sunday who are coming over Exeter chiefs. Antoine Dupont, best player in the world will be playing for them. Quite a few other star players in their team. Can’t wait.

again a shitshow that nothing on terrestrial tv!

OK, so what is it that the Scotch toffs shout during Flower of Scotland after the words 'and stood against him' ?

Well that was beyond shit. We lost so much without AJs ability to deal with a blitz defence.

Only positive is last Xmas game Ex took us apart and we ended 5th, let's hope this is a kick up the arse. (And hope Sarries do us a favour tomorrow)

Looks like all the games this weekend will be one sided

Hopefully Quins v Leicester is a better match for the neutral

Not sure I have much hope of a chiefs win either

Well I missed out on seeing Chiefs win as didn’t go as feel a bit unwell. Watched on the box instead for undoubtedly a better view but less atmosphere. Shame as it was a first win of the season.

Gloucester brought a good crowd, and it was a sell out, though I find the terraces quite claustrophobic when the ground is full

Sometimes sport throws up unexplainable statistics: three times Harlequins have played Leicester in The Big Game at Twinckenham, and all three have been draws. A quick bit of research tells me that about 4% of Union matches end all-square.

Spread betting* :)

Notice how the Leicester player (captain?) kicked the ball off the pitch at the end when they were in quite a promising position.

*joke

Off to see chiefs play Bordeaux, who are top of the French league

The great French players who don’t play for Toulouse are in their team. Super excited to watch Damian Penaud. Sadly Bielle-Bierrey is on the bench but hope he’ll get a half hour or so

Chiefs battered by Bordeaux 69-17. The French team have a superb defence and a really impressive catch pass backline. Better than Toulouse I would say.

Penaud hat trick, but he also made three more including a ridiculous pass back inside when he was about to score so a team mate could get one. Plus a brilliant run through our defence to set up Lucu’s second

On and I also saw Manny Feyi-Waboso in the club shop and walked past Flats at the bar who would have been there socially I think.

Highlights on YouTube shortly I think now

French mascot was a right card

Just watching Dragons vs Munster (BBC S4C) under (presumably the new rules. The need for scrum halves to use the ball quicker does really speed things up and they don't seem to suffer from it. Not many up and unders so not sure how that will pan out. Probably again make it more competitive though.

yep enjoyed it, Sale were a bit unlucky I thought, Bath impressive in second half though.

I've changed my mind about the new kicking rule. It's good that there's no blocking it gives the kicker chance to challenge for the ball rather than just giving ball back to opposition.
