you've really never heard that before?
it always went like that: bad food, bad teeth, pompous attitude. sorry
you're also really well-loved for the Beatles, your comedy, and the royals (sorry again)
Stop saying sorry after being insulting.
...really?
but you wrote the message toodon't shoot the messenger.
I'm afraid that she's right.
Britain has a rep for lots of good things; but its native cuisine isn't one of them.
After the war, Britain suffered from rations and all round austerity and as a result British cuisine became rather dull as we relied on limited resources. Luckily, those days are over and British cuisine has been revived, so those cliches about bad food, while accurate in the 70s, no longer apply now. Besides, there are plenty of other cuisines to sample in the UK as it is absorbed many over the past 50 years.
Not quite as much as the Brits!
Your posts on this thread have been top-notch, btw.
I imagine that the French, the Italians etc suffered from shortages during and after the war as well; they didn't attract the same reputation for boring food, though.
I don't think there is anything wrong with British food and I don't think there ever was. I have enjoyed my food all my life. I even liked school dinners when other kids were saying how they didn't. Those dinners were classic British dishes. People just seem to like being negative about things that are British.

no, you just have a limited understanding of the meaning of baconthat's true. it does go both ways.
I still feel very about the bacon thing though.
It's kind of like saying "ice cream sucks. we eat sorbet. sorbet is better, for reasons a,b, and c. but mostly because it's what we eat"
Most of what I know about American food is from watching Man Vs Food. I'm sure it's not all bad.

My bacon was not quite 100% tonight, I fried it in a bit of olive oil, should I have used butter?
Lard, butter tends to burn at too low a temperature to feasibly fry bacon in it. Olive oil's crap though - I'd like to see a return to the days when it was only used as arselube and people had to sign a register at the chemist in order to obtain a bottle.
this is what I'm talking about! where does this attitude come from? Olive oil (which happens to be revered throughout the world for its flavor and health benefits)is crap?
so we have so far:
bacon (crispy)
olive oil
mayonnaise
pancakes (the non-English kind)
and I'm sure there's many more I've heard over the years here.
so, tell me, you all-knowing food experts, what else is crap?
