in terms of interview wear you need to go a tiny bit smarter than people doing the same job would wear. a dress is fine in an office environment - with a cardie once you work there... but for an interview... the problem is you don't know what ideas about smartness your interviewer may have, and people can be put off by clothing choices. What about a velvet jacket? something with lapels, anyway.
Well it's partly that a not too long dress is quite compatible with me getting there by motorbike and not having to find somewhere to change (although I could). Also if we're getting into jackets, that's starting to be serious money, especially as I'd probably have to buy the rest of the outfit to go with it.
