Get Your Crocs Out

While I do think they're a bit on the ugly side, there are two things...
One, I have very flat feet and they're one of a very short list of things I can wear without my custom orthotics in them. (that and my beloved GT 2000s)
Two, I could give a fuck about wearing ugly things.

So I have two pairs. Lemon yellow regular sort for this time of year, and blue fuzzy ones for wearing about the house in winter. I wouldn't go far in them outside, but they've definitely been to the corner shop and the postbox. And they do get used at the beach, because even sand doesn't provide enough support for me.

It’s not unusual in the oil and gas industry to arrive on a project and crocs are totally banned

Once worn a bit they are a bit slippery, but also they can be accidentally grippy at the wrong time as well
Totally understandable! After getting caught in rain storms and trying to get to my car (and almost falling on my ass because the grip is lost), I 100% agree they should be banned in a lot of places.

During lockdown I resoled a pair of crocs with a car mat that I found on the side of the road. The grip was incredible. Contact adhesive and an angle grinder...

I wore them for a few years prior, living on the beach they're a very functional shoe. Once I returned to real life and realised that they'd become a fashion item *again, I ditched them for jandals (flipflops).

I can't stand my toes touching and spent years in and out of the water, so they had their place but I'd never wear them in public.

The first thing always I did was remove those awful pins from the side and take off the 4x4 linkage, that bit's completely unnecessary. Cracked and flat heel got to me in the end and my crocs were always so worn through that I spent years pretty much barefoot.

I can't stand to wear socks and shoes but here in the UK it's standard practice. I get a lot of odd looks wearing jandals for the school run in deepest midwinter but hey, sod em.

* eta I removed it anyway as it's probably bad taste on a public forum.

Ingenious upcycle of the car mat. I dig it. :D

I hope it’s a walking activity. It’s illegal to drive a car in flip flops.
Whaaaat???

Not sure driving laws are the same in all countries. :hmm:

Yea, driving laws aren't the same or majority of people living in Florida would be arrested on daily basis upon being pulled over... I don't think driving with flip flops are illegal here, but there are some plain old crazy laws still in effect from the 1800s in a lot of places...

Attached are the crocs both now (2023) and visiting frogwoman (2009). The one from 2009 is grainy because (1) it was nearing night [obviously] and (2) it's 35mm film.

Not specifically. There’s loads of statutory regulations that aren’t specific. By the way, if you think it’s safe to drive in flip flops then I think you’re a dick.

My Mum used to regularly drive in flip flops and never had an accident while doing so.

Mind you, she did play this song constantly while doing so...

And in my opinion it's you who's behaving like a dick here, and not for the first time

tonysingh, hopefully, has some crocks that would snap up your rubber footwear and their wrinkled cheesy contents.

Wearing mine today to the local hospital for an appointment because it’s the summer - had to wear socks and trainers at the weekend which is very rare

Mine are really old, I can’t even remember except I wore them after marathons and long runs and that must be at least a decade ago if not more

They’re still going strong and I wear them as much as I can from April to October. But perhaps I should replace.

Can’t say I’m tempted - what’s the appeal?
Plastic shoes with holes in them?
What’s to like? :hmm:
I got an email from Mahabis last week attempting to flog me some sandals that look very similar to Crocs, but they’re equally unappealing.
Is it a comfort thing? Can’t be for the aesthetics.

It's a comfort thing. For me, anyhow. There are very few items of footwear I can put on that don't require me to wear orthotics with them. Crocs are on the short list (and Asics GT-2000s). Since I'm wearing them around the house to keep my feet from hurting anyhow, I may as well have bright lemon yellow ones to cheer me up.

Comfort too, but in a different way: I get hot feet and like the cool breeze blowing. I never wear socks in the warm months either.

Good for gardening if going in and out of the house.

I’ve yet to find a suitable and comfortable pair of sandals, so I’ve given up looking. My feet don’t get that hot anyway, so I’m usually happy with socks and trainers.
If i lived near a beach or went on holiday somewhere hot, I might be more keen on finding comfy sandals, but neither are likely to happen any time soon.

They're comfy and convenient, they slip on and off, no faff, no tying or buckles, no confinement. I used to wear flip flops as soon as it got slight warm, probably for the same reason.

Incredibly comfortable. Can be worn as slippers cos they are strangely warm and can just go to the shops in them. Slipper to street no prob. The right outfit with the right colour they can, not always tho, look great. And they keep their shape and colour for yonks in my experience. Easy to clean. You can do gardening/labour in them and it’s just a whipe to clean.

I was looking at them in Schuh yesterday

Was quite tempted by the camouflage ones but was worried I’d lose them, will definitely be a darker colour I reckon
