Guys! Where do you buy your Long John's?

I think both leggings and long johns are a tight fit, but you can get leggings that are 95% cotton or even merino wool (they ain't cheap though). My partner borrows mine once the weather turns nippy, and we both wear them underneath the trousers. The only real downside is that it's a bit annoying with unlined trousers (which in our case are all trousers), because the fabric catches on the leggings and doesn't drape down the leg the same way. Unless you really have an eye, it's not visible but I find it a sensory annoyance.
Yeah like stuff sticking to tights, it doesn't hang right and feels odd

Nah stuff sold as leggings generally is a bit tighter ime - long johns that fit with the same amount of tightness around the waist are slightly looser on the leg. Leggings are stretchy enough that a bigger size would probably feel looser with falling down, though.

I only have one pair of long johns, so in an extended cold period during which they are worn they can get a bit whiffy :( :)

If it's really cold in my garden office I put on my ski trousers.
Another good non sweaty alternative are running tights/leggings from decathlon. I find them really comfortable. They are made to keep you warm, they move very freely and wick uncomfortable sweat.

You need merino ones.
It is odd, that a particular sheep (Merino) which is predominantly reared down under where it is usually searingly hot, ends up being a good material (Merino wool) for us in the UK when it is pretty darn nippy.

Not especially. The insulating properties of wool help protect them from heat as well as cold. Merino sheep originally came from southern Spain and the modern breeds developed in Australia should be even better suited to the climate there.

I don’t know how long the newer Uniqlo thermals might last but I have some (tops and long johns) that are still surviving after a good 15 years.
They are fine for winter on a building site. That’s just the basic range, dunno about extra/ultra warm

It's tracking shit, you can just delete all the stuff from "ref" onwards. Or use the link button at the top of the box you write posts in here, to add different text rather than displaying the whole link.
Ta!

Including the "ref" bit (edit - although actually I just tried clicking your edited link and it seems to still work with that left in)

Edit again - there's an actual share button on the Amazon page which will let you copy a shortened link too
