spanglechick You can buy stretching spray, but it can darken that kind of leather. I'd wander round the house with my thick-socked feet crammed into them till they stretch.

Hmm when i finally get home i tend to lay down until its time to go to work again... I might wear them to work every day and also bring shoes to change into when it gets too much.

Pleasingly, I have just discovered that I can now squeeze into Carhartt stuff. Well, just about when it's 2XL.

Normal sized clothes! For normal people! Such as ones a normal sized person might wear!

Oh...that is lovely Greebo :)
Thanks, as usual it looks not quite the same on me (at least the waist is in more or less the right place), and I'd been dithering about it since last summer. BTW it's nonstretch cotton, partly lined, the back's shirred, and there's an invisible side zip.

It's from dress 190 and they do a lot of rockabilly/"vintage" (50s cut) clothes.

There don't seem to be that many smart linen trousers around this year. Lots of v scruffy ones, but mostly dresses. I may have to do an online trawl

Nice. I'm waiting for their lino print one to go on sale. It has pockets!
I loved loads of them, they have a kind of thick sweatshirty material tunic that you can just imagine a hot modelly type throwing on as she gets out of the sea after a bracing swim. Sadly it really would suit a middle aged Mumsy type! Still covet it though....

They have some lovely cardigans too- gorgeous colours, really soft.... But I am not supposed to be spending any money. Ahem.

The petticoat arrived today. Vacuum packed to make it small enough to post cheaply, but a quick wash restored the volume. It's got a very scary amount of oomph now.

These two have come (had to get the others from John Lewis). The gold pumps are fine - if a little feel-able on the heel (this is a problem with almost all shoes - as opposed to boots or backless sandals). Hopefully my heels will toughen up before the shoes destroy them.

The yellow ones are a bit narrow across the front (strangely, the backs are soft and snug) - but the leather is really soft and a bit unfinished-feeling, which gives me strong hope that they will give quite a lot. Any hints as to how that might be hurried along?

You can get bottles of "shoe softener" to spray on/apply to the leather. IIRC John Lewis do a good "own brand" one. I used a spray-on liquid softener (Fiebings' Shoe Stretch-It) on a pair of thick leather boots, and it worked very well.

ah well if these go well maybe I'll get the pale ones too instead of sandals. I really really need a pair of summer work sandals but due to my buggered foot and generally crap feet anyway, nothing really works. I'm really struggling to find something, but these might be ok and supportive enough.

My mother in law was surprised I hadn't sprayed them before wearing, she says she always sprays leather shoes, especially pale ones, with protective stuff before wearing. That might not actually be a bad idea; I have to get Ez some trainers this weekend, so maybe I'll get some sort of spray while I'm at it.

Petticoat control is certainly a major issue when you live in the gusty north.

All the owners of the clarks brogues, do you wear them without socks/tights? I'm worried about rubbing.
