These?

I bought a stretchy cobalt blue 3/4 sleeve above the knee dress from H and M the other week, but can't find a picture of it online anywhere

Stumbled upon a 50s dress which actually fitted me yesterday in Brick Lane. It generally fits well and the fabric's lovely but there's something odd about the neckline and I'm feeling the urge to do something about it. It looks like it's strayed on from a dress for a much smaller person. Possibly whoever drafted the pattern sized the rest of it up for larger sizes but didn't bother changing the neckline. It kind of rides up in a weird way round the sides and back and looks particularly disproportionate when I'm wearing a cardigan.

I could easily find some more white ricrac and alter it. Maybe either take a couple of cm off all round the neck, or possibly just off the back and sides.

i think it's a pretty shape - very 50s - and it's always going to be easier just to enlarge an existing neckline than cut a whole new one.

i'm thinking the best way to do it is to cut a new facing which you then sew onto the outside, with the ricrac sandwiched in the seam, trim, turn, tadah :)

does it have a zip at the back or anything else that would make it tricky?

I got some lovely stuff from Oasis the other day, but none of it's on their website. Simple cotton vest tops, but flowery so not butch, an absolutely gorgeous dark blue flowery dress, and, um, some hotpants.

I also got these: http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-tahoe-mid-ladies-275234 walking boots for my daughter, because she needs some for her Duke of Edinburgh thing, and these http://www.sportsdirect.com/campri-segura-ladies-walking-boots-186132 walking boots for myself because the GF wants to take me on long countryside walks.

No zip anywhere, should be quite straightforward.

Yeah, I think facing is the way to go, because then I can take a bit off at a time, see how it looks and take more off if I think it needs it. But then put the ricrac back after. I want to basically retain the design, but just make the proportions better.

i'd go with just chalking it on and go with whatever looks right :) then it's all done in 1 go :)

but i understand you might be nervous ;) g'luck :)

Wedding shopping for my little brother's wedding (and will conveniently be wearing at another wedding at the weekend :cool:_

This dress - it appears to be magic and have excellent slimming properties  (takes 5 minutes to get the zip done up with lots of boob jiggling mind :D)

And these (much more expensive than the dress ) shoes, which are lush, very comfortable and match the blue spots in the dress :)

^^ great finds..

my shoes arrived today in the most wonderful packaging. I now have them out on display..wonder how long it will take my BF to notice them...:D

Oh, I was looking at that dress the other day and thinking about ordering it! Was it Tesco?

I have several online purchases made recently and they will all have to go back. :( The only one that doesn't try to cut my boobs in half has backfat that I'm not liking. It's a cut that's worked for me before for a couple of dresses but meh.

You're making me more angry, nipsla. finding dresses the length I would like is near impossible so i have all dresses that are shorter than I want.

it's a gorgeous dress, nipsla. i'm well jel.

I have been buying some clothes lately, but all off ebay, so that's ok, right?

All these bloody pemplum (?) dresses would have been right handy when I was slim enough for my top heaviness/narrow hips to be more of a problem. Of course they weren't the fashion then, but now.
