campaign against welfare cuts and poverty

Doesnt that open them up to some sort of liability?
There has to be accountability for that. We've seen, repeatedly, over the years that the Government is not interested in holding DWP accountable for anything. And why would they? It's achieving exactly what they want - scaring people off from claiming what is theirs by right.

Jeremy Vine has decided to home in on some of the most vulnerable people in society with this gem:

I can't fully express how disgusting this is - it's full on far-right rhetoric. People have literally starved to death after having their benefits cut; others have taken their own lives due to fear for the future and/or the stress caused by the DWP and their contractors. "Cut off their lifeline" about sick and disabled people is proper nazi shit imo. And it's not just some rando on twitter, this is someone with a large audience.

I'm one of those on 'sickness benefit' and the way my last employer treated me played a massive part which caused the pre tribunal pay out I was talking about on the other thread.

I've worked for over 30 years though and plan to get back on it as soon as I can.

Sorry for falling on hard times Jeremy.

P.S I have a 55inch OLED (which I bought with my hard earned pennies) Should I give it away now? I heard that dolies aren't supposed to "sit at home with them"

I knew the economic crisis would turn out to be our fault.

So with previous crackdowns having presumably unaccountably failed to tackle the supposed hordes of idle scroungers, will there be any reflection on this? No, and round we go again.

Yeah, it's really shit.

And the horrible person Vine received a five-figure sum for giving a speech to arms dealers in 2015.

Apparently Hunt is dreaming up ideas on how to increase benefit sanctions including losing free health care.

Fuck every tory. Fuck every tory voter. These people need shooting
Classic "if it doesn't work, use a bigger hammer" approach :(

Just to point out the obvious, you need a lot of the people who voted tory last time (13.97 million) to vote labour at the next election. You are giving them a reason not to.
Unless you are serious about shooting them?

How am i doing that?
To quote you "Fuck every tory. Fuck every tory voter. These people need shooting" would not encourage me to vote for any party you want me to. It would do the opposite. But if you think spitting hate-filled bile at people is an effective way to persuade them to your way of thinking then please carry on.

Are tory voters likely to come here and read that comment do you think?

It's the Times, so I'm sure they will not want to misrepresent the depths of Tory cruelty

This seems horrific:
Sick notes will be approved by the benefits system rather than doctors in a trial in which patients will be treated by therapists working for the DepartmeNot nt for Work and Pensions. GPs could be cut out of the process.
Not entirely sure whether this will all kick in before the GE. WIth Liz Kendall in charge there isn't much hope of real change, but this seems beyond horrific.

I thought we'd been around this particular block years ago, and had fondly imagined it had sunk without trace.
A “WorkWell” service is beginning today, under which the benefit system will directly employ occupational health specialists and mental health counsellors. Under trials in 15 areas, people wanting a fit note will be referred for assessment and treatment.

As a "mental health counsellor" myself, I am chilled to the bone by the idea that therapists would, effectively, be working to a DWP agenda. I am gratified that, last time something like this came up, most therapists, and all professional bodies, explicitly went on the record to say that it was inappropriate and unethical.

Although, with this festering government's record on attempting to shoehorn their nasty shit through, regardless, I have no doubt that they will attempt to do it, and find such therapists as are unencumbered by such moral considerations to do the work. Which will almost inevitably mean that they will be third-rate professionals, and liable to do more harm than good.

This really is beginning to enter the realms of "thoughtcrime". I would certainly have no part of it.
