Buying a home and don't know how anything works

We own stuff that two (weedy office workers) can’t carry! Plus we have no experience finagling sofas around corners etc. I can’t wait for the four figure quote to move us .9 of a mile 😎
Ah, my sofa was sat in the parents garage and this house has patio doors into the lounge dining room. Wrangling sofas round door frames is an art form.

0645 on a Monday. So the email refreshing begins 🤪 Did a load of packing this weekend!! Plus another tip run. Still difficult to focus without an actual date.

I suppose the sellers are going to somewhat dictate the date, as they are buying somewhere obvs? I’m so bored of them. They delayed all this by over a month* Offer accepted mid-Jan!! I know I know it takes time but those queries were asked early April and it’s nearly June!

* probably longer as it was leftover stuff from the fixtures and fittings form!

Vendor says (at 0739 this morning!) they want to move at the weekend so I said if they can make that happen they should go for it 😂 We don’t have to move at the weekend, but are happy to own a house then 🔆 Just replied to say ‘ok go for it’ so they have to do some work chasing for once 😑

No reply or acknowledgement of this ^! I don’t think they’re going to be moving at the weekend! If it was me there would be bums on fire all around town getting this organised. I mean, it is me but why should I educate these house sellers on how to sell a house? Morans.

Completed Exchanged yesterday! Only stressful in the sense that we were WFH with no printer so had to ‘break out’ to go to a chum’s to use hers, plus to the bank to transfer the deposit rather than in chunks over days 📑💸 Exchange Completion 10/6 but won’t actually move until the next week.

Teehee 🙊

Excited for you two!

Don’t you normally exchange (pay the deposit) and then complete? ;)

Great news 5t3IIa and Thora

I had an email from my solicitor on Monday - no sign of my mortgage offer - but that should be sorted now as the chap from nationwide was quite swift at getting it sorted. Odd though given that my own copy was received fine back in April and theirs should have been posted.

There seem to be have been a few bits of paperwork they’ve needed to ask for twice but I’m not sure if that’s down to me or them :hmm: The good news is that the bundle of remaining documents for me to sign is almost ready so perhaps we are getting there.

Still need to look again at the surveyors report. Haven’t felt at all well this week, and seem to be spending my non-working hours asleep. I’ll try and print it off tomorrow when in work and look at it over the weekend.

I don’t know how people have the energy to investigate items on the survey and get people round to the property for an assessment. At the moment I barely have enough energy to get out of bed!

Congrats all who are either there or getting close to it. Keep pushing solicitors, they'll get there eventually!

A tip for those physically moving soon and doing it themselves - however much time and effort you think you need, double it. Even with the luxury of 10 days overlap keeping the rented house on after getting keys to new place, plus the assistance of 2 sets of parents and a few friends, the soon to be Mrs Brannigan and I are utterly broken, it's been a mammoth effort.

I know what you mean. With an active toddler at home it's a struggle just to find time to sign the essential legal docs, let alone to find tradespeople or engineers willing to check out stuff on the survey.

I don't think in this market there are many people who would try to negotiate a reduction in sales price because of a bad survey. Unless it's something truly staggering like a roof leak or broken windows.

Foresee any issues? Or will it be flawless bar the running around? 😎
Don't think we really need to do anything today. Just waiting for the solicitor to call and say we can go and pick up the keys.
I should have been at work today but youngest child was up at 4am with a temperature so can't go to nursery, so we're just sitting round in our pyjamas waiting. Mr Thora took the day off so he's gone back to bed.
