I live in St Annes. There were a fair few going off near me, and I could hear them from much further away too. Went on for about five minutes.

It IS done as far I can tell. So, poverty for some in some places, gains for others; we all knew the score on that one here I think. I do get the things said above, but the fact is after ten years of austerity, numerous elections and controversies I don't think most people give much of a fuck anymore. Boris Johnson reckons he's going to make sure that all corners of the country are going to be 'levelled up/ none left behind'. Big words, but it wouldn't take much effort to do more than has been done by the last two Tory governments.
We know there are loads of knuckle-heads throughout the country, but we can't and shouldn't stand for the majority of people being written off as such. I see that as a huge mistake for any socialist. What's done is done, lets see what happens. The left needs to look around around at the country and offer arguments and solutions to the problems of homelessness, poverty and stretched/underfunded public services. The government opposition needs to hold Johnson's government, and it's claims of 'levelling up' (i.e deflecting from aspiration for equaliy) to account. Because some undoubtedly will 'level up' more than others. Life goes on.
