What, Japan?

Ha! Definitely not! :)

Just sad to see the country I lived in for nearly 20 years in such a state & I worry for my friends and family back there. I remember when a colleague stood up at work (after the referendum) and said that the country was "too full" for foreigners, despite two of us in the room being European. That's mild, of course, compared to the vitriol and hatred spewed now. It's the far right being emboldened and I fear where it might lead...

Mood amongst fellow migrants here isn't too great, either.

Honestly whatever your position on leave or remain, fuck the EU, a disgusting cunt of a suprastate
This, it's amazing how some people can't, or rather refuse, to get something so simple.
Not your problem anymore. Get your own xenophobic, homophobic post-Brexit country in order:
....
Bye, bye and don't let the door hit you on the way out... :)
You're talking about xenophobia coming out with this nationalist claptrap. How many Greeks have you killed?

Studies suggest there have been something in the neighbourhood of 150,000-200,000 excess deaths in Greece since the start of EU-imposed austerity measures - if you take the higher figure and apportion blame equally across all 500 million non-Greek EU citizens, Reno and you have each killed 0.04 Greeks.
Yeah, well that the point isn't it. Of course Reno isn't responsible for the actions of the German state on the people of Greece, or for the rise of the AfD but neither does SpookyFrank (or anyone else) bear responsibility for the racism of the UK government.

Wot be celebrating and too busy to mourn, curious to see what actually happens and how much difference it will make to my life.
Getting ready to go see my dad who lives in a tory village in Bucks. I expect the bunting will be out.

My facile remark was in response to SpookyFrank’s facile remark, to let him know how idiotic and petty it was. As a German living in the UK for 33 year, do you know how often I personally got blamed for WWII and the Holocaust by the British ? I’m used to the British way of arguing politics, living on past glories and always arrogantly feeling superior to all other nations, Brexit is a direct result of that. So the 21st century upgrade is that I’ve killed Greeks, no surprise really.

Of course on a message board everything gets argued in extremes. I can’t be arsed to go from point to point but it started with Spooky Frank giving the impression that the EU somehow endorses the homophobia of Poland’s government, which is in the great tradition of The Sun arguing straight bananas.

This of course can only mean that I’m fervently pro-EU, which I’m not. I doubt anybody ever learns anything from or is enriched by political discussions here, they just want to see their biases confirmed so I’ll leave it here.

Good luck with that Brexit thing....

What genuinely scares me is what, maybe not on Monday or even in a week, will the kind of brexiteers wearing plastic Union Flag bowler hats do when then their lives are still shit? I can’t see the current left attracting them.

you have to seize it from the government armed with nothing more than a wrecking bar
But Gove dressed only in a Gimp mask and leather posing pouch riding in a baby carrier on the back of Ann Widdicombe really scares me.

Please identify where I've blamed you for anything.

And whether the EU endorses the homophobia of the Polish state is neither here nor there. Obviously they have to be seen to oppose it, and just as obviously they will do nothing. Like they have done nothing about Orban, or Salvini.

Ime there's no point engaging with brave sir reno

If I have crossed any lines I'm happy to have this brought to my attention. It's just that I honestly can't recall accusing Reno of being personally involved in any regional legislatures of south east Poland, still less EU bureaucracy.

But if the standard of debate is to talk about 'my' homophobic country then it seems fair to point out that my accuser's home nation is directly allied with the institutionally homphobic Polish state and mine, as of last night, is not.

Sorry but that's cobblers from start to finish. You've not only totally misrepresented SpookyFrank but you've then doubled down on the daft nationalism. The EU might not quite endorse Polands homophobia but it's more than happy to turn a blind eye to as SF and Proper Tidy pointed out, contrasting what has happened to Poland and Hungry compared to Greece, Spain and Italy.
