Bands you refuse to listen to because their name is awful

Is Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan awful or genius? I can’t decide.
Ha. Gordon is a mate of mine, and I thought he'd come up with a really hackneyed concept when he announced this new project, but people really love it so I guess it's good?

Snapped Ankles.

I think I heard them once and they were okay. Just an instant mental image that I could really do without.

And just cos he was mentioned earlier in the thread, am I the only one who finds Richard Hawley's appeal absolutely baffling? No hate - he seems like a nice bloke. Just don't get it. Sort of Val Doonican for indie types.
Great Band and a great name!

Black Country, New Road notably having found their name that way.
Sticking a comma in the middle of your band's name isn't great. See also Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia.

By the way, I like M,BICR, and the first BC,NR is pretty good.

This. Just heard a really excellent track then the announcer said who it was by. Even if they were the best psychedelic band in three decades, no. Fuck off back to suspicious-smelling fire escape behind the Junior Common Room.

It's in the vein of Mull Historical Society or Public Service Broadcasting, isn't it. It's not a bad naming tactic - whatever they actually look like, they're bound to seem cool compared with the pasty blokes in woollen waistcoats smoking pipes in a mid-60s council office that you picture when you first hear it.

StranglewAnk (Deliberate capital A for the anarchistic thing). Fans self defining themselves as ‘wankers’.

…erm OK that’s an unused band name I’ve had for a while. Dead Kennedys style shouty political punk band.

Just gave pigs x 7 a listen courtesy of the Sabbath/Hawkwind claims. I can see why they spent years unknown. They have the right formula but kind of miss the spot. I might have liked it 30 years ago. They sound like Helmet to me

Slightly off topic but I remember when The Darkness hit the scene and everyone was talking about them. I thought great, it's a simple but effective name why hasn't anybody else thought of this they just have to be good! Then I heard them  I guess there was a clue in the fact that so many people thought it was great

Well they sound exactly like I expected them to from the name. I like the music but the name is possibly leaning into the nostalgia for 1970's suburban banality schtick a little too hard.

By this time next year Nostalgia For 1970's Suburban Banality will have appeared as a genuine musical act. In fact, fuck it I've got a synth downstairs maybe I'll do it.

It's probably already the title of a 4-CD retrospective box set on Cherry Red.

I started putting together a Music for New Towns mixtape a bit ago, but ran out of steam at around the half hour mark - I reckon the genre has bloomed somewhat since then...

I love Pigsx7. Best band I saw last year. I'd have liked it 30 years ago too :D Without being too pseudy; live, their wit and humour really come across. Plus they're well heavy and I sort of fancy the singer.

Seeing them again in April
