Amber Rudd resigns and then returns (and resigns again)

Was blatantly trying to long it out till after thursday, but no, events dear boy. I was actually offended on a dignity level at a friday night twitter excuse a thon, from what is possibly the third most powerful position in government after xcheck. I mean its all fucking bullshit, but thats taking the rise, by their own pretend rules and concepts of ministerial dignity and duty thats a piss take.

Theres more that should be taking flak for being mini eichmanns but tonight, that'll do.

Amber Rudd has resigned , oh sorry its already been done

The Tories won't suffer enough compared to the Windrush victims.
I hope they slither and squirm to oblivion.
Look out for a box ticking appointment like James Cleverly or somebody.

How much of a bad person am I for the joy I get from reading the comments on Conservative Home on nights like this?

I'd never looked on there before. I've just been and some of the comments were much, much better and smarter than I could have hoped for. Posters on there slamming identity politics, not just from their point of view but from ours.

White privilege hadn't been invented in 1968 when Sartre led students to the Renault factory in Paris during "the events". The cry was worker-student solidarity. The workers interpreted this as meaning we provide the muscle that provides you with the power (including the power to dictate to us à la Soviet Union). They told Sartre and his teenagers to take a hike, correctly reckoning that they were better off being represented by the communist CGT whose leaders were authentically working class. Students in 1968 were almost exclusively middle class, rather like today's French Socialist party and our own Labour party.

Not bad compared to what I was anticipating.

However, there's a lot of nasty shit on there too.

Glad Rudd's gone of course.

more meat for the Home Office mincing machine required- the more bodies that can be put though this role, the more political careers can be finished

I remember the commentariat portentously warning that Greening would be a thorn in the government's side for remain from the back benches, when she was booted a few months back.

I wonder how that worked out?

yeh. The commentariat are paid for prognosticating, not for the accuracy of their predictions.

If there is an ounce of honour / principle in this resignation then that alone shows she doesnt belong in this cabinet. Plus I doubt she is nearly racist enough for May's tastes.

Minister can't vote against collective responsibility, so backbench I guess?

Ministers can vote in cabinet though.

I don't think it matters that much who sits in the chairs, though. The end result of the government's Brexit strategy will be back-to-square-one, by dint of it being a shit strategy that always cared more about keeping Peter Bone's hilarious semi-fictional wife happy than actually negotiating the Brexit process.

Indeed, especially as May's already hinted that Rudd might be back in cabinet after a short spell on the sidelines.

She's a leadership contender, one of the few comedy options compared to BJ, Mogg etc. I'd read that she was looking around for a safer seat.

She was safe until the leaks about targets started coming out. I hope they put Javid in the post, or Karen Bradley. I don't want to see more of Gove or Hunt on the TV.

They're really desperate for TM to stay aren't they? If she resigns then what? They can't have yet another unelected PM surely
