Economic Intelligence Unit Turkey expert Aengus Collins tweeted earlier that he couldn't work out who power would/could be handed to if successful - underlined now by reports that all opposition parties - CHP, HDP, MHP - have denounced the coup.
Damn right I'm a Clinton supporter. And Turkey is a secular country, not Muslim fundamentalist like the virtual dictator Erdogan was trying to make it.

Coincidentally, a Turkish Facebook contact used the same word, immediately - 'I think it's just theater. So Erdogan can declare his presidency'
I know nothing about the fella, can't even remember how or why we're linked, & have no reason to believe he has any better/worse grasp of politics than anyone else on social media. But it obviously has some currency tonight.

Oh my god... Just woke up to the news. I'm actually in Hong Kong all summer, am rather selfishly glad to be away from all the chaos. Things have been increasingly tense for several years.
Catching up on Facebook - friends in Taksim (city centre) said people were running down the streets in panic, ATMs are empty, people are stocking up on food and water. Very very worrying times

Yes. This is a tradition in Turkey. When the Islamic fundamentalists go too far, the military stops them. Ataturk's tradition should be kept.

Succeeds or dies on the streets, pre-functionary and even pre-planned distancing is not disowning. Brass hats have made the gamble does not mean all that are sympathetic or will benefit have to through their hat in the ring in the first hours.

Hints at Civil War either way really. If you're associated with any rival power bloc then it'll be you he cracks down on, so why not fight even if the coup is dispersed now?
