2016 Coup in Turkey?

This is all so confusing.

Ain't that the truth, spectacular number of rumours.

On a side note BBC reporting seems to be quite open to slating Erdogan. Not that he doesn't deserve it, he's a cunt, but the openness to judgement might say something. Or not.

Different perceptions of the role of the military, different affiliations to social blocks - reckon it could fairly easily be rationalised if you view Erdogan as being a contradiction of genuine 'Turkish' ideals.
If anyone knows how to weigh up a fight and the probable balance of power, it's mid-level military types. Find yourself outnumbered on the wrong side and it's a comparatively quick decision as to whether you comply, flee or fight. You don't need the brass once things start going wrong for you, you need to pick sides and blend in with the winners.

So just like every coup in history. Just with the speculation sped up by social media.

Would imagine there'd be more clarity though, no matter how general. The makeup of the Turkish military can't be that much of a mystery to governments/news agencies and there must be someone issuing the declarations - haven't heard anything yet though about who that is.
