2016 Coup in Turkey?

Edrogan bans street protests now calls for people to take to the streets.

Gunfire now in Istanbul.

People marching with tanks around Ataturk airport. No one knows whose tanks the people are marching with.

Why would ISIS be happy about it? Polarisation and persecution of AKP supporters leading to radicalisation?

Civil War is their favourite entry point I suppose, especially given the potential for Erdogan to call out his support as a religious incitement given his reputation. Some minarets apparently calling people out onto the streets.

Are the people marching with Turkish flags anti or pro coup or are they both?

If you don't have the support of the military top brass, how do you get those beneath you to follow orders and get in tanks and stand against your own civilians??

Withdrawal of Turkish army interference in Iraq, Syria, belief that some involved in coup are radical Islamists. I don't read Arabic so only know what A is telling me. He survived Isis and his brother is still in turkey so is struggling- I'm not going to ask him to read any more.

Military top brass within government vs Military slightly less top brass who actually command troops?

I reckon coup is US backed

Anything is possible. Get the feeling there's a lot of people in the White House and Pentagon wondering what the fuck's going on right now though, even if some have already made their decisions about it.

Aye, fair point, I suppose. Still relies on a lot of individuals signing up to a very different cause to the one they originally joined.

Different perceptions of the role of the military, different affiliations to social blocks - reckon it could fairly easily be rationalised if you view Erdogan as being a contradiction of genuine 'Turkish' ideals.

'80 dead in France and now turkey in a state of chaos- what wonderful days!'
'Retribution from allah bbhn on the devil erdogan'

Celebrations on the streets of Damascus too. The man didn't/doesn't have many friends- though some of those celebrating may not have thought through the ramifications.
