Your daily cat and kitten news

Currently have a visiting ginger / marmalade cat - which can meow for the olympics !
Not a stray, it looked too well fed when caught by the camera trap in mid-July.
However, Tuesday night it was even louder than usual and absolutely ravenous.
Last night, somewhat similar (not as loud) but still very hungry and visited much earlier than usual - also looks a bit thinner.
May camera trap it again for comparison images.

Oh and Kerry is just her foster name as she was a stray.
If she doesn't really know her name yet I'd be inclined to change it to something you like. One of my cats is called Torres (presumably after the footballer) and it's not a name I like at all but he was 9 years old when he came to me, so far too late to change it. He was given the name at the RSPCA rescue his previous owners had him from but as neither of them were football fans I don't know why they didn't change it while they could as he didn't know it. He was a street cat, a full tom and had a badly smashed back leg that had to be amputated when he was picked up so probably didn't have a name.

Torres is also a Trekkie name [ST Voyager]

There’s an explosion in the number of missing cat posts in my local Facebook group at the moment. Happens at a certain stage every summer , whenever the nights are warmest. Seems like there must be a big cat AGM once a year that takes them away from home for up to a week or so, but the missing cat threads invariably end with “cat came home today” updates.

If she's getting bigger and has been living feral and isn't spayed I'd say she's 90% likely to be pregnant - do her nipples look enlarged/prominent/pink (if she allows you close enough to have a look)?

She is certainly a very pretty wee thing :)

Got this photo of her. What do you think.

She's disappeared again yesterday. Hope she comes back today. Bit worried if she's pregnant.

OH says she is sleeping a lot when she is here.

It's hard to tell from a photo but she could be, or maybe parasites - she's a bit round in the belly.
Cat gestation is around 9 weeks so you might find out soon
I hope she's ok.
She's got absolutely gorgeous markings, stunning looking thing.

She does look like she could be pregnant to me as her teats look quite prominent in the photo.

If I was you I'd get a kittening box ready, just in case, and hope she uses it if and when the time comes so you'll be able to keep an eye on the new little family.

Looks like our Buttons when she was up the duff. Buttons was a stray who’d been kicked out by her “owners” and was sleeping under our hedge in the middle of winter. Some people are bastards. Best to get her checked over at the vets to confirm things. You may well be hearing the pitted patter of tiny paws though.

I was living in France and my sister was in the family home with her two cats causing issues because they weren't allowed outside. Long story. Anyway, I came back to visit one summer and installed a cat flap to let them out. I went back to France and a few days later one of the cats disappeared.

A few weeks later I had a dream in which I was talking to this cat in a kind of telepathic way. The symbolism of the dream was a hill with a little tunnel in it. I was telling the cat to come with me into the tunnel as this was the way home. He took a bit of coaxing but eventually followed me in there. He was now home and he looked around, said thanks, and went on his way.

I wish I'd told my brother about this dream immediately, but I dismissed it. The very next day the cat turned up for real, quite thin and with a raw patch along his nose. But alive, grateful and very cuddly. I said hey I knew he'd come back, I saw it in a dream yesterday! But nobody would believe me. Oh well.

The clues suggest he must have been shut in somewhere and tried to press his way out, scraping his nose repeatedly. He must have had access to water or he'd have died. Probably some small amount of food or maybe not, I don't know how long he could have survived only on water. He was famished when he came back. Maybe accidentally shut in a neighbour's garage. But the whole thing was mighty mysterious.

I know I regularly catastrophise about Jakey's state of health, but he really doesn't seem to be doing well this evening.
He's been a bit constipated but he did do a little poo this morning, so I wasn't massively worried but he just doesn't seem comfortable right now and is leaking a bit of fecal matter (which is common in constipation).
I'm monitoring him and if nothing moves tonight, I'll phone the vet when they open in the morning to see if we can get an appointment.

happy international cat day to all kittehs of urban

think this may have been posted before when it appeared on tweeter, but it's now been re-created on blooski, and can be read without a login - story of how a feral kitteh adopted a hooman

followed by the cat distribution network delivering a stray kitten

He managed to produce a small nugget but it was a Herculean effort and he's still a bit restless and seems uncomfortable. :(

I should find a container that I never want to use again to put it in to take to the vet tomorrow

Poor baby. Hope it clears up soon.

Has your vet suggested giving him lactulose? One of my elderly cats is on it and it works well as a stool softener and keeps her regular.

I'll ask about that if whatever is ailing him turns out to be nothing too serious.

I think he gets dehydrated and constipated due to being in late stage kidney disease.
We've managed the condition well for over 2 years now but things are declining a bit - if the vet thinks he's not on his last legs just yet then I'll ask him about that.

He's more alert now and has had something to eat but he's still weeing on me and leaving trails of Stuff from his Bum (could also be anal gland related I guess, if he's not having normal bowel movements) and he's not been eating at full pelt like he used to for a while :(

It's one of those things that this could all be old cat stuff and linked to his age and kidney disease, or could be something more sinister going on with his innards.
I mean he's had 2 UTIs this year (CKD cats prone to bacterial UTIs) but this isn't like the other times where he's been dribbling wee and in pain when pissing, this is just oops on my lap while he's asleep, which he's only done before when he's been on drugs to relax his bladder, and he's not on those drugs at the moment He is clearly constipated though, so it might be due to pressure from that.

Incidentally, rescues are all saying the cat situation is dire at the moment. They knew there'd be an issue what with lockdown pets followed by a cost of living crisis, and this has been amplified by the abolition of the scheme where you could get cats spayed for free, either with a voucher or by a charity like Celia Hammond. Rescues are overflowing.

They said people are just not applying to adopt, even kittens.

The cat rescue I volunteer at has just informed me that something like 20+ feral kittens are due in "imminently"

And in sad news only 1 of the 7 kittens I posted pictures of earlier made it - I wonder how many of this next lot will survive?

Beauty has now accepted that one of us tapping the sofa cushions & some version of "get up here" is an encouragement / permission to come up for a stroking session [not quite lap time nor cuddles, yet].
She and Bella[collie] seem to be coming to a friendly arrangement on sharing the same sofa cushion or sitting either side of a hooman [and getting petted together]. Bella isn't quite convinced that she's allowed (by the cat) ...
