Your daily cat and kitten news

They look like they have some serious mischief potential 😀
I actually had to abandon my sewing session that morning as they were driving me mad!

One was sitting behind the sewing machine grabbing the spool as it went round, another one (off camera) was grappling with the tape measure on the floor pretending it was a snake that had to be killed and the third one was sitting on my lap with his paws around my neck dribbling and declaring his undying love for me for the umpteenth time that day, completely blocking my view!

Mrs SFM h suffers similarly. As a result she tries to do most of her sewing mid-afternoon when our 2 are dozing.

I went to a cat cafe today,

I had been a bit concerned about the ethics of cat cafes, but the cats were very able to come and go as they pleased and were protected by various rules. Though they evidently preferred it when a large group of noisier children left. I was very impressed by how gentle and cat centred my youngest was.

Would you like to see the cats? :)

Green eyes so I would go with Burmese as the cause of the coat colour/markings rather than Siamese - cats with colourpoint coats of Siamese genes (and they are different genes) almost always have blue eyes, and hers look distinctly green.
Burmese have green or gold eyes, slightly darker coat (in the light parts of the colourpoint coat markings), and a rounder face.

She's gorgeous :)
Reminds me very much of the previously mentioned Ping Pong the Destroyer. :D (except he had more of the tomcat cheeks, but very petite otherwise) Hopefully she's not as chewy/pukey!

I want my kids best friends dog. It's about the size and better temperament than a cat. Sits on your lap and likes fluffles and doesn't fuck off elsewhere. Plus he's a better ratter and I'm allergic to cats.

My god they grow quickly, it's been a long time since I had kittens and had forgotten how quick it goes.
They're gorgeous, and it's lovely to see how well they seem to be getting along together :)
They are growing well - Diùra in particular, although Sgarba has about doubled in size and they are absolutely inseparable now. Diùra is the more sociable/friendly of the two around new people, but Sgarba will come around for treats/playing but is a bit wary/standoffish at other times but as soon as its back to the three of us, she’s all snuggly/cuddly as ever. :)

They are still using two litter trays and I have bought a second litter box but found them both having a visit to each other’s boxes in the last couple of days.

How can anyone not want such a lovely boy?

What on earth is the matter with people? I hope now this story has been in the paper that someone will offer him a lovely home.

13 isn't old anyway. A few years ago I took on a 17 year old cat who's owner had died. I only had her for a year but what a lovely year she had as she was able to go out into my garden as she'd been an indoor cat with her previous owner as she lived near a busy road. She never went far from the house but she loved lying out in the sunshine on a warm day.

He's lovely. I love his white and grey markings.

Up close he looks brown and white.
He is astonishingly slim, built like a marathon runner, but it seems to be OK with him, fence traverses, and skipping across the grass quite happily.
Quite amazing considering the amount of scrounging he does amongst the neighbours.
He is well liked because he is chilled and pretty single minded.
Has a good snuffly purr most in evidence when food is around or when eating.

Holiday cat advice please.

Our kit kits are now around 18 months old, they've been going outside for over a year, we kept them in last year when we went away for 2 weeks, a friend feeds them. We are thinking to keep them in again as we would worry, and the girls are very attached. We also all feel bad about keeping them in.

I think we should stick with our plan and keep them in.

I would definitely leave them in. They won't like it as they've tasted freedom now but it would be much safer.

Does your friend live nearby? As long as they don't mind changing litter trays a couple of times a day and spending a bit of time with the cats it's probably the best solution. Your friend would feel awful if one of the cats went missing or something bad happened to them.

Sonic looked brown in certain lights too.
There's no such thing in nature as a truly black pigment - what we call a black cat is truly a dark brown cat.
A blue cat is one who has dark brown pigment speckled along the hair shafts rather than densely pigmented (this is called "dilute")
So in certain lights you can see a black cat is dark brown or may even look like it has a reddish tint due to the dense red pigment under the dark brown pigment.
And blue cats will in certain lights look paler brown.

(I use the term blue not because it's a "posh term" for a grey cat, but because it describes a particular genotype of grey cats, there are other types of grey cats that have different coat colour genes causing their colouration).
