Why do you want to shut down McDonalds?

Hardly a story. Probably just a junior manager on shift who did not grasp the gravity of the situation.

I assume that the local MP was down there buying drinks for the emergency services?
Local MP might not know of fire. Local MP probably not working in a place that has tea and coffee and water right there.

I agree that it might have been a manager on shift who might have been scared to do things not quite by the book. Well, do some managing, then. Quick executive decision. Free stuff for fire brigade. Knowing that if the bigger boss shouts at you later, you can give reasons why it is important to be hospitable to fire fighters.

So hardly news then

Does anyone give a toss about McDonalds any more? It does seem to me that that focus has more or less gone completely since the time this thread was started.
Whatever people say about the, McD's have done a great job at cleaning up public perception of them and their products. Not long ago they were considered the ogres of fast food but now with their campaigns about animal welfare, free range eggs, staff conditions etc, you hardly hear a bad word against them.

Yeah maybe. They've done a lot on packaging I think - remember when you used to see piles of those foam burger boxes everywhere, you don't really get that now.

I think they probably get less attention though partly because other companies have really outdone them in terms of shit employment practices - a McJob is still at least job not a fake self-employed piecework thing - and because they're not expanding as aggressively. They've peaked as far as their expansion goes (here at least) so there aren't new ones opening up everywhere.

The people I know that have worked there don't have a bad word to say. Reliable hours, lots of scope for training and promotions if you want them etc. There's plenty worse targets out there now by the sound of it.

My nephew and his wife have both worked at McDeaths for about 8 years each now. They have a mortgage, holidays, and a free dinner on every shift. They're lovin it!

Maybe Mac's attract so much publicity as they are seen as the biggest of the bad boys of fast food. But it's not just about staff relations and animal welfare and clearing of rain forests though.
Regardless of your name and how smaller business you are and come close to infringing their copyright and they will have you in court, same goes for libel.
It sickens me how children think going to Macs is a treat, thus wanting to go more and more....it's not good for you.
Also, McDonald's legal cases - Wikipedia
