Marcus Fakana - Dubai and why not to go there

Tbh, when I first read about the case, I suspected there might be a racial element in that the girl's parent(s) were angry that she'd had sex with a black boy. Doesn't surprise me to learn that the family are supposedly British Asian.

Horrendous thing to do to a young lad, out of spite and/or anger and/or racism.

Would that overseas conviction mean that he'll have to go on the sex offenders register when he's back in the UK?

Marcus has been jailed for a year for having sex with a 17 year old when he was 17.
...
17 years old and a year in a rough adult ( I presume ) prison doesn't bare thinking about.

Agree but a 17 year old receives a year in prison - just stinks.

This is incorrect.

If you read the reports of the case, including the articles that you have shared, you will see that neither the consensual sexual encounter in which young Marcus Fakana engaged, nor his sentencing, took place when he was 17 years-old.

Without looking it up and no legal training, to your last part, I'm gonna say a confident 100% no because what he did wouldn't be a crime here.

If they’re on holidays in a hotel why go and buy bread and milk and that?

Or didn’t they bring enough pants?

A few years ago I worked in a private language school run by a massive Russian-Estonian woman. She and her husband went to Dubai on holiday and upon their return staged a slideshow of their trip for the employees. In Russian. I found it easier to feign interest as I had no idea what she was talking about. I just laughed at the pictures of her holding up blingy tat in a very sterile and tacky environment. Exactly the sort of person who would go there. I'm sure she had a wonderful time.

I'd rather go to Merry Hill and buy a Sex Arse that looks like Noel Edmunds than go back to Dubai...

I'd rather go to Merry Hill too. It was my childhood shopping centre. Many fond memories. Not of a Noel Edmonds Sex Arse unfortunately, but maybe it changed after I stopped going.

The interesting thing I found about shopping in Dubai, at least in the shopping centre under / around the Burj Khalifa, was the properly mental stuff you could buy there. The six-figure diamond studded watches in shop windows may have been expected, but the speedboat with radar reflective surfaces, prominently displayed in a prime mall location, raised more questions than it answered.

The Foreign Secretary, The Right Honourable David Lammy PC FRSA MP.

Young Marcus Fakana's own UK member of parliament is ... The Right Honourable David Lammy PC FRSA MP.

Yes, I just said that. And all the support available from britain for Britons detained abroad is generally fuck all, as urbs with long memories will occur happening to detained demonstrators in Prague and genoa and gothenburg.

Things have just much worse.Speaking with a contractor yesterday, he said he was going to Saudi next week. For a fight!

Fury v Usyk by the sound of it.

Tell your mate he should watch it on Sky like the rest of us, without giving his money to a shitrag regime.

My missus worked in Dubai for 11 years in a very high level job with a good salary, but just had enough by the end. Among other things she couldn't report a sexual assault as she would have gone to prison as well and she (a brown woman) was paid less than British men she supervised. She was able to pay for an entire housing development in her home country as a result but now doesn't feel it was worth it having lived in a civilized country for six years.

The UAE is utter barbarism.

To be clear, there is nothing "supposedly" about the identity of the family concerned.

I came across two photos of two women and two names on Twitter. I had/have no way of verifying that information, hence supposedly (or allegedly). Have either/both of them confirmed their involvement? Or have the authorities confirmed their involvement?

I doubt it would be too difficult to Google the Dubai Sex Crimes Dept...

I'm assuming the mum didn't like the boyfriend, flew back and hit Google - and bish bosh, the nascent romance is over.
And given that her daughter's name will be out there - it always is - she's made her forever part of the crime. By which I mean the grassing, of course. A hideous decision.

I'm making the assumption that the mother would justify this in terms of 'protecting her daughter'. There's been no suggestion that she was in any way coerced into the relationship. That's going off the reporting, so another assumption admittedly, though you would think the mother and Dubai plod would have mentioned it if there had been. But the problem with the 'protecting her daughter' justification is that prosecuting the lad doesn't make her any more 'protected' than she was before. She's back in the UK and back under the seeming control of a parent who reads her messages. Prosecuting him changes nothing. And going out on another limb, I'm guessing the real 'abusive' relationship here is with the mother.

That is a lot of speculation, but it's very similar to the speculation that I have been doing, privately :)

I’ve read everything I’ve seen about this from the beginning and have come across nothing to sway me from my earlier opinion that the mother is simply a racist cunt.

Apologies if this detail was in the original reporting, but I've not seen it: the case is reported as 'the girls mother alerted authorities...'. So, what does that mean? Did she forward sexualised photos/chat about/portraying/written by her own daughter? A class act eh? Doubt the Dubai authorities are that big on making cases a level playing field, to say the least, but they will have needed something from the mother. Yuk.
