I have a happy food day today! I am going to a Japanese festival for lunch, and going for a Greek meze in the evening. I love Japanese food, even when I can't have sushi. And you can't top a whopping great meze.

My day has started off with cheese puffs for breakfast.

I've got a mate coming round tonight for beers and food. I bought some beef kofta and peri peri chicken kebabs from waitrose last night so I'll probably do those with some new potatoes and salad, maybe corn on the cob.

I've got some strawberries and cream so will get some meringues from M&S and do eton mess too.

The dhal that I didn't have last night, with garden peas and french beans and toasted pitta.

Oooh - have a few rasps to pick too!

No meringues though. :(

Going over to my sisters today as we're having a family gathering for my dad's 70th birthday. Dad's bringing the lamb burgers he makes for the BBQ and I'm making southern fried chicken and a couple of salads, bread and tomato and radish, mint and feta, as well as coleslaw. Other food will be provided by my sisters - should be a good day / night :)

I made a pizza from one of the awesome thin-as rotis we get from the local Indian supermarket. Edam cheese, pizza sauce, capers, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, thyme, oregano, chives, chilis, and sliced up vegetarian sausage.

Pudding of several small, very tasty apples. Possibility of toast with lemon curd for supper

Taking over barbecue duties at a friend's new allotment. Managed to get to the market early enough to have avoided the worst of the heat and I'm mid-way through preparing: sticky hoi sin and honey ribs, chicken with lemon, mint and chilli, burgers, tandoori paneer kebabs with chaat massala and stuffed jalapenos, halloumi with lemon thyme and veg kebabs, peas and rice, corn on the cob and maybe some garlic potatoes. Fairly calm at the mo - couple of hours to go.

Be more pleasant if it wasn't so flaming hot in the pokey little kitchen

Stovetop casserole of chorizo, onions, garlic, mushrooms, aubergine, red peppers, courgettes, tomatoes and basil with some gnocchi added towards the end once it had reduced down. And magnums for pudding. mmmmm.

It's Sunday so we're having roast of some description.

I might make something with gooseberries for pudding. Might not.

My dhal wasn't dhal at all - it was the fucking rank hummus I made the other week  so I binned it  and had some toasted pitta with the red pepper hummus I had left in the fridge (also rank  ) followed by half a tin of pink salmon and an avocado.

Fucking rubbish dinner!

Had to have a bowl of banana and ice cream with caramel sauce to make up for it.

for lunch today i'm doing roast lamb, the inlaws (nice ones!) are coming round. was planning pork but the pig dude wasn't at the market yesterday. i know exactly what to do with pork but i'm a bit at sea with lamb, it's a leg - in 2 pieces, they only bring small cuts - and i've only really ever done shoulder before. i'm hoping saint delia won't steer me too far wrong on cooking times, and i might stick my all-singing-all-dancing meat thermometer in it for good measure.

the rest i can cope with though, carrots, cauli, beans & my awesome roasties

Leek, Mushroom and Cheese Quiche with salad (beetroot and mint, carrot, onion and sunflower seeds, rocket and pine nuts) and sunblush tomatoes. Raspberries for afters

delia was wrong it doesn't take 45 minutes to roast a half leg of lamb . luckily i didn't trust her and allowed an extra half hour plus i used the thermometer. it was absolutely spot on, meat was perfect :)

Lots of this week's Lewisham market haul went straight in the freezer or used last night. But I've loads of aubergines which I'm going to use in an aubergine-featuring Thai green curry later and I'm just about to make mango icecream from a carrier bag full of mangos.

Sirloin steak (rare), potato wedges, cooked with lots of garlic and a suitable drizzle of olive oil, fresh crisp salad leaves from the garden with lemon olive oil and balsamic glaze as a dressing, and a healthy dollop of homemade mayonnaise.

One of my favourite Saturday night meals, however, it's the World Cup final, so we're having it on a Sunday instead, having had a bbq last night.

Food.

We have just had chicken breasts stuffed with philly and mushrooms, herby new potatoes, roasted peppers and garlic and corn on the cob.

The peppers were slightly overcooked so I pretended I meant to make pepper crisps.

It was absolutely gorgeous.

Chicken curry. I meant to have it with rice but ended up having it with chips.
Because when I went to the cupboard, I found I only had about half a teaspoon of rice. Why did I leave such a dopey amount in the cupboard and not just throw it in the pan the last time I had rice?
