What's for tea tonight? (pt7)

That's the range of takeaways available from our local parade of shops, new pizzeria (not bad), fried chicken and Khan's excepted Badgers.

I would probably get the Burrito from El Panzon, after sweettalking the little man to be less vigorous on the portion control. When done well they're as good as anywhere else in London, but the congenital cheapness of the head honcho means they're sometimes a bit too rice heavy

Yeah, that pissed me off a bit at El Panzon. The beef burrito was a rice burrito with a hint of beef. The big ones are good with strips of fajita style beef but they are £10.

ooh, you tried the new pizza place then?

Interested :)

I saw them fitting the shop out a couple of weeks ago, but haven't been round there since... stone baked apparently.

Yeah Biddly, I've tried our new neighbourhood wood fired pizza emporium. The area's clearly gawn upmarket.

Pretty good really. Typical Italian crew in the kitchen - all floppy haircuts and football shirts - decent bases and ingredients. Not as good as Franco Manco for example - the bases don't get as crisp, and the whole thing was a little soggy if I'm harsh. Enjoyed it though - it's pizza after all.

Fairly premium pricing for a local pizza place tbh. I think we paid about £18 for two medium (of 3 size) pizzas on their best deal. It's not a kind of Dial_A-Pizza equivalent where you'll get free extras and deep fried sides for a pittance. In terms of value, I could have got a couple of Braza Burgers and a 1/4 free range chicken, plus more sides than you could shake a stick it for the same price, 3 burritos or more fried chicken than even I could eat. Not sure it's the best material value, but that's pizza for you.

Last night: huge Barnsley chops and sweet potato mash (with allspice and nutmeg). Washed down with that Cabernet Merlot again. And Guinness, when the wine ran out.

Tonight - something easy, probably quiche and salad.

Agree with you on the rice heaviness of El Panzon Badgers, although you can persuade them into greater generosity with a little talk

The £10 deluxe versions are fucking superb and a match for anywhere, but that's a bit of a hit for a folded wrap of street food. Even if it is as big as a baby's arm, it's still me eating off a bit of greasepaper paper in the sodding Hootahobcanning.

I SHOULD be doing courgette, feta and potato cakes, french beans and pork belly slices, but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Garden stuff though - needs eating! :hmm:

Fuck it - gonna get a chinese. My son had a taster day at his secondary school today, so that's a good enough excuse for a 'celebration'. :D

Courgettes etc will just have to wait (although son has a fussy eater mate staying tomorrow till Sat eve, so it's unlikely to be then either  unless I just eat LOADS of courgettes myself :hmm:  ).

No excuse for a celebration here but I'm too fucked to cook - can't move off the sofa - so I think I'll ask mr madz if he can get fish and chips on the way home

Did you have the lemon and herb?

Can't really fault the place myself - it does chunks of well marinated meat, very well cooked on a charcoal grill. It's worth the pilgramage for exemplary piri piri if you're down that way, but it is only grilled chicken (and other meats) when the chips are down

Can't remember what I had but I think it was spicy :hmm: I don't think it was chunks just a quarter chicken or somehting. It just tasted like chicken and chips to me but I'm not much of a connysewer

They've extended the menu a bit now. Revamped out the back too.

I was totally knackered and had just fallen out with Grayson Perry so it probably just got chewed and swallowed. I'm sure it's lovely.

Burritos, chips, and onion rings.

Mrs. Icarus has cooked some lovely things in the last few days so tonight's tea is a lazy one that I can get ready.
