What's for tea tonight? (pt7)

They've extended the menu a bit now. Revamped out the back too.

Yep, I've checked out the back - decent space with tvs for more of the regular crowd and extended crew, rudimentary smoking area out back. Foodwise and they still seem to excel at that grill for me, whether that be chicken, ribs or lamb. Personally I think it's worth the pilgrimage, but well grilled, crispy hunks of meat are tough for me to resist. Thankfully it's got the kind of loyal clientele that's ensured it's powered out the same menu for more years than I care to remember. Good gutsy stuff, plenty of fish and tasty secret sauce goodness, in the restaurant bit out back too. I'd love a few of their recipes.

They still do fresh crisps too K?

It's chicken and chips

We had roast lamb stuffed with garlic and rosemary, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, yorkshire pudding, carrots, broccoli, green beans and gravy.

Seafood carbonara-- penne pasta with all the usual things, plus small shrimp, surimi 'crab', green shell mussels and peas. Green salad. Toasted baguette with roasted garlic purée. Store-bought custard slices for dessert.

As always, I want your meal YIO

Sounds like you don't eat out much, but will have to get some recommends from you for places round your way :)

Or there's the drum barbecue and some fine jerk in there on Thursday nights and occasional other busy periods.

Hong still lives locally and looks most happy for those of you who remember the Thai crew.

...it's the first summer El Panzon have been back, but it's probably approaching 6 months or more. If you can be arsed to go back on the Brixton Chitter Chatter thread you should be able to time it by the folks gabbling excitedly about its return.

Not usually much on for veggies though. The occasional corn cob if they have a separate drum is about it.

About time the HootaCanning updated their website I reckon.

Sorry Ringo, forget you were a veggie. Doubt the provision for veggies is that much more than an afterthought for either if I'm honest.

Cassoulet again, wahey. Nice pork and leek sausages from Waitrose

Plus wine/beer/spliff. Perhaps more of that rather lush Wolf's Blass 2007 Cabernet Merlot, perhaps more Fuller's Discovery and Shepherd Neame Spitfire... am unsure of my evening's intoxicants right now tbf. Will decide once hangover shifts.

What should I drink, urbans? You decide.

Gone for a safe option (I hope :hmm: ) for the boy's friend....chicken goujons and homemade :hmm: garlic wedges with french beans for those who will eat them... :hmm:

Waffles with maple syrup and ice cream for pudding.

I've got a totally fucking weird mix of dhal, pork belly and french beans.

Have managed to use the biggest courgettes up in more courgette muffins (banana and poppy seed this time). I'm going to end up with about six hundred of the things in the freezer at this rate. :hmm:

Promised to make some lemon mini muffins in a bit with my daughter, so those later, too!

Pea and something - might be watercress, can't remember it's been in the freezer for a bit! - soup with pancetta and garlic bread. And beer. or vodka. Or both

Dunno yet - going out for dinner with the gf

Probably something deep fried to start and raw and bloody for main

Plus beer plus wine :D

I certainly appreciate the compliment. :) You wouldn't, though, on the days I don't post what we had for dinner. On those days, it usually means we've been busy as hell and I've either cobbled something uninteresting together at the last minute, or pulled some casserole-like thing I made months ago out of the freezer for baking.

Sounds like you don't eat out much, but will have to get some recommends from you for places round your way :)

We really don't eat out much in restaurants at all, except when we're in the city for some reason or we're on vacation. The pub in one of the nearest towns does a fine beer-battered fish and chips dinner on Fridays and we do that occasionally, and there's a Japanese/Korean place in another town close by that's okay. But apart from that, it's at least an hour's drive to anyplace halfway decent and two hours+ to Toronto-- but once there, the choices are huge.

Today dinner was garlic lamb sausage on the barbecue with a honey/coarse mustard glaze, pan-fried cheddar cheese pierogies, radish salad and green salad. Nectarine/banana salad and store-bought vanilla ice cream for dessert.

See what I mean about cobbling something together at the last minute?

You are far too modest, even your cobbled meal sounds lovely! :D

Hoping to be driving south from Toronto, then back. Is there a website for the area where people review restaurants and cafes? I'm getting lots of ideas from another board too :)
