tsk tsk tsk t_a....if moomoo was here you'd get a good lashing :p
I know ...i want to adopt her as my mum even though i think shes younger than me :D
I have fallen out with cooking and my son seems to eat out all the time at the moment ( new gf) so seems pointless.

Battered cod with my signature salad* - been enjoying fish a lot more recently, probably having it more than meat with my main meal. And so along with my usual fish/seafood purchases (tuna, salmon, king prawns, squid) I get from the local Chinese Cash and Carry (either Wing Yip nr Ancoats or Chi Yip** which is Middleton/Chadderton way) I got me some cod. At just over £4 a kilo it were a damn site cheaper than any supermarket I know of too.

Made a simple batter (flour, water, salt, lemon juice), heated the deep pan of oil really hot, quick dipped me fish in (over half a kilos worth - I was really hungry!) and stuck it in the pan.

Was absolutely gorgeous - better than any decent chippy fish I've had (which was my litmus test). I think it'll be on the menu next time I have friends/a woman round for dinner.

:)

* Thinly sliced pepper, sweetcorn, cherry tomatoes halved, thinly sliced red onion, sliced avocado, lots of feta cheese, olive oil/white wine vinegar/lemon/salt and pepper to taste.

** First time I'd been in since my dad died. He was in the restaurant trade and I often went in there with him when he shopped there. I went round the place with a tear in my eye, recalling the last time I was in there around eighteen months ago.

A fellow Spanish friend called him that he'd known since the 70's called him, him answering his phone in his customary manner ("Good morning/afternoon/evening [the name of the business] how can I help you?") that we all used to take him off with. I think his friend wanted to do something with him, knowing that it was the day the business was closed, but my dad speaking with him in Spanish told him he was talking me/us out for some food (I think my then partner came). He used to absolutely love taking people out for food on his day off - if I worked in a restaurant I imagine the last place I'd want to see on my day off would be the inside of another one.

So yeah, was a bittersweet experience.

but surely you can do better than a chocolate bar and a bag of candy :D :p

i'm about to have same thing as last nite, meatloaf with mash/gravy, corn, green beans and a cornbread muffin :)

I had pseudo curry. Chicken chunks covered in Gara Massala, lemon juice, chilly powder. The curry base and meat part are fine. It all goes wrong when I add the tinned tomatoes. The toms make the liquid taste too sweet.

pasta with roasted sweet potato, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and lots and lots of parmesan.

i always make enough to take some to work for lunch, but strangely enough, it all gets eaten

Yum! Yum! Yum! Yet another reason why I wish I lived in magic america!

Tonight it smoky sausage cassoulet with jacket spuds which will hopefully turn out better than my terrible rice and peas stodge episode. Tcch!

Lovely but bittersweet story there Jambooboo. :)

For tonight's tea we will be having my quick and dirty bacon, toms, peppers and pasta dish. It should be enough for 5 but it'll probably do us for tea and then one of us for lunch tomorrow  It's nice with garlic bread.

Leek and potato soup is very hearty and plenty for dinner :)

Innit :) although it does make me fart something terrible

Never mind. Think I will make a big pot of stew tonight: either gaijingirl's butternut squash and barley stew, or some generic vegetable stew :)

:( rice and peas didn't work well then?

Nut :( it came out really stodgy and nothing like the rice and peas I've eaten when done properly...maybe I used too much liquid or something? Oh well! Back to the drawing board (or maybe push myself and have a stab at tarannau's recipe as he seems to know what's he's talking about, grub wise! :D )

Last night we had a warm salad of red cabbage, bacon and chicken livers.

Tonight will depend on whether hendo stuffed himself at lunch today with BK. If so, then I will make spicy parsnip soup. Otherwise we will have something involving leeks, bacon and pasta.

one of my new big pasta bowls
This caught my eye

I've been looking out for a decent big pasta/soup bowl for AGES now, and I can't find any. They're either too small, or they look like fruit bowls.

Where did you get yours from?

I'm on either leftover soup, or, if I don't fancy that, pesto pasta and olives

I'm not sure what I will end up with as I've got to go to a leaving do and have no idea what sustenance will be on offer :( I'm glad the girl is leaving though because she is hopeless so it should be a fun evening!

last night i had a massive feast:
lentil, chickpea and sausage soup,Dhal with spinach then apple crumble with loads of custard. Not all at once in the same bowl though :)

tonight i will have:
chicken with sundried tomato and olive pasta with garlic spinach. probably...
