What stupid shit has Trump done today?

The ambassador sounds like he did exactly what he is supposed to do, give his honest opinion. The only scandal here is the leaking of such opinion. Trump should be more concerned with how his admin is seen in actuality rather than believing all those who are polite to his face.
This. I think the most telling thing of all of this - let's face it, the Ambassador's view is hardly news to most of us - is how Trump has reacted. He (or, at least, someone who wasn't him) could have very easily shrugged it off with charm and dignity, but Trump wasn't ever going to do that. Instead, he's done a lovely job of removing any doubt as to the validity of the Ambassador's comments. Which, I suspect, was what everyone would have expected anyway.

Channel 4 news had the head of the Brexit party on calling for this guys head. The Tory they had on live from Westminster just refused to contemplate that idea and laughed at the idea of saint Farage as ambassador.

FCO is looking hard at whether the leak is a deliberate damage job after the memos fell into the hands of a hostile state - that could mean compromised communications, or someone with government leaking to someone outside, who then gives it to them.

Not impossible by any stretch, but more comfortable than a member of the government leaking it via a tame hack because they dislike HMA's views and want to see them replaced.

Wouldn't have believed that previously, but I do now.

Trump doubles down. I imagine the US Ambassador to the Court of St James is awaiting a rather awkward conversation in Whitehall.

The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy. He should speak to his country, and Prime Minister May, about their failed Brexit negotiation, and not be upset with my criticism of how badly it was...

...handled. I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster! I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool. Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far...

He won't read it, so will never know. And even if he does it seems HMG has penetrated his inner circle so, they'll have their agents on the blower massaging his ego and reassuring him about us

Clearly I was wrong. The Oval office is going batshit-crazy de-lux.

Excellent the Chinese hate us for Hong, Kong; Trump because we were diplomatically undiplomatic; the Iranians 'cause we've pinched their boat; the Europeans for the ongoing saga; the Emiraties for giving princesses asylum: who can we piss off next!

I don't know why this hasn't been referred directly to the police. it's a clear breach of the Official Secrets Act. Ambassadors have to be able to speak bluntly and freely without fear of being leaked. The leak has caused a lot of damage, justified or not, but that does not excuse this leak. It may provide precident that it's OK to leak this sort of material. Totally wrong (even if accurate...)

Really fishy isn’t it? Very damaging to the UK and the timing stinks.

The timing is certainly interesting. The ambassador was supposed to be retiring from his role in a few months anyway, but if he has to go early then perhaps the equation changes in terms of who his successor will be. Plus there are suggestions that Mark Sedwill wants the job, and there were also suggestions that he might have had something to do with the whole 'Corbyn is too frail' thing. Plus all sorts of wacky names are thrown around as other candidates for the job. So no shortage of domestic theories to be pondered! And no shortage of international possibilities behind the leak either.

I'm convinced it's international. Have a look at Robert Mercer. Got Steve Bannon into Trump's campaign when it was floundering and gave the services of Cambridge Analytica (which he owns) to the Brexit campaign. He's a US hedge fund billionare with Randian opinions. Very low key. Never gives interviews.

So THIS is what it feels like to live a global pariah feels like?

Trump can't block people on Twitter, court rules

Donald Trump can't block people on Twitter, a US appeals court has found.

The president cannot infringe the first amendment rights of citizens by banning them from being able to see his tweets or post messages to him, the court decided.

The constitution does not allow Mr Trump "to exclude persons from an otherwise open online dialogue because they expressed views with which" he disagreed, the judges said.

We're North Korea with nukes that work, on a submarine somewhere off your coast. And our subs don't sink, unlike Vlad's

And we havent been decimated by economic sanctions. And we are permanently on the UN security council.

Boris would have to rather massively out-Gaddafi Gaddafi for us to even qualify for the opening rounds of 'who wants to be on the axis of evil?' and even then I think much of the negative would be attached to Boris the individual rather than the nation state (much like Trump).

But yeah I think your nuclear point is all that is needed really, it says it all. And it wasnt that long ago that someone like Williamson was making threats was it? So hardly the first time in this era that Global Britain PLC has been rather openly acting as a nuclear-powered mobster. When the right country does it that makes them an important part of the established global order, not a pariah!

I’m going to baselessly speculate that this leak might have come from a remain supporter within government - a key pitch of hardline Brexit folk is that they’ll easily get a nice trade deal from Trump after the UK leaves, so throwing a spanner in the works of this ‘special relationship’ weakens that position and makes the project less viable. Also puts Tory leadership candidates on the spot a bit, as to whether they would stand up to Trump’s reflexive counterattack.

Well Darroch has now resigned so lets see who gets the job.

A big subject today at the White House Social Media Summit will be the tremendous dishonesty, bias, discrimination and suppression practiced by certain companies. We will not let them get away with it much longer. The Fake News Media will also be there, but for a limited period..

....The Fake News is not as important, or as powerful, as Social Media. They have lost tremendous credibility since that day in November, 2016, that I came down the escalator with the person who was to become your future First Lady. When I ultimately leave office in six......

....years, or maybe 10 or 14 (just kidding), they will quickly go out of business for lack of credibility, or approval, from the public. That’s why they will all be Endorsing me at some point, one way or the other. Could you imagine having Sleepy Joe Biden, or @AlfredENeuman99,..

...or a very nervous and skinny version of Pocahontas (1000/24th), as your President, rather than what you have now, so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius! Sorry to say that even Social Media would be driven out of business along with, and finally, the Fake News Media!
