what no thread about occupy oakland

Well If you are so immune to images of the state brutally attacking peaceful demonstrators that you are no longer moved by such images then I congratulate you. Me, I still have enough of my humanity left to still be disgusted and outraged when it happens and I hope I always will be.

Its difficult not to be shocked by someone with a bullhorn yelling "You will submit! You will submit!"

The latter then.

I know that you think shrugging your shoulders and remarking "what did you expect" makes you appear like the wise old battle hardened warrior of the left, who has been there and seen it all etc. I'm sure that's the image that you cultivate and want to present, but, really, to the rest of us you are just coming across as a bit of a cynical twat.

'Us' - nice one.

It's quite simple, attack the state (whether your attack is effective or not)and you get attacked in turn. Now, i know that you agree with this so why post the above?

Because its a truism. A truism only posted to demonstrate your macho posturing and therefore of absolutely no use to anyone. When the Egyptian state massacred Coptic demonstrators recently, did you post up a "what did you expect, why the outrage" post? No, of course not. You were the first to post about it as I recall. Why? Why bother?, after all its to be expected.

The fact that the state will act with brutality on occasion does not lessen its impact or the crime and it should never be met with our cynical acceptance. It should always be met with outrage, because it is an outrage and I know that you agree with this so why the above?

Of course truisms have value you prat - they make people prepare and think about what they will face, they help arm 'us'. To deny this and them and the motivations behind them is to weaken 'us'. To disarm 'us'.

I'm not outraged. Now what? Is this macho posturing or 25 years experience? How are you going to judge genuine revolutionary zeal?

Its macho posturing. Fake macho posturing and I am ignoring you now because your an irritating twathead and you are disrupting this thread which believe it or not isn't about you or how ard you are.

via US Uncut: Mayor Quan issued a statement commending the police for their "peaceful" eviction of Occupy Oakland, even going so far as to invite occupiers to express their first amendment rights during daytime hours. For Mayor Quan, "peaceful" apparently includes shooting veterans in the face with rubber bullets and putting them in critical condition. Give her a call, and tell her she needs to resign her post so a more "peaceful" mayor can govern.

Tbh I kind of understand where butchers is coming from. Yes, this is disgusting, but does it surprise me? Not in the least. Don't forget it was only 40 years ago that students were shot dead at Kent State.
yes. but the kent state shootings were famously the national guard, a different body who were not - as far as i know - on the streets of oakland the other night.

i am surprised because i thought there wouldn't be as many as 16 different 'law enforcement' organisations out on the streets at once.

I am not surprised by it either. In fact I was expecting something like this sooner or later. That's not what he was saying however, he was saying he wasn't outraged by it. Something different entirely. I hope the day never comes when this kind of brutality doesn't outrage me.

Its official, I'm living in Orwell-land. :(

Me too, but under current circumstances why are you surprised?

In the event of 'our side' coming out on top, it wouldn't be long before the same was being done to the many who would oppose the new set-up, whether the new set-up wanted it or not.

It's the way it is, suckers.

I think the outrage is slightly ridiculous as this is what they do. Do you expect them to act in any other way?

EDIT: Read rest of thread seen your other post.

Well it's all relative. This is the first time that rubber bullets and flash grenades have been used on occupy protesters and as such it is a new development in this particular protest so no, its not what they do at all, not until now.

It's a first relative to this wave of protest and as such represents a step up in the violence. Of course, I am not surprised that such violence has been unleashed and I expect more, especially if this movement becomes a real threat, doesn't mean I am so jaded as to be unmoved by it however.

Expected <---------------------------------> Outrageous, two aren't mutually exclusive are they?
