What new foods have you tried recently?

OMG really? My whole town is one big poundland and I pretty much avoid it, will have to go down tomorrow.

Believe it or not, as part of my efforts to rediscover food in a healthy way, I just microwaved my first sweet potato - and though I still prefer solanum tuberosum - not least because I can grow them myself to perfection, I quite liked it.

kangaroo can be a very tough meat. Had it a few times, once as my christmas dinner. It was like eating your way through a World of Leather sofa.

Zebra burgers on the other hand are much nicer. Springy without being chewy. Gamey without veering on rank.

Mangosteen the other week. Very nice, looks like garlic tastes a bit like a tangeriney clementine thing. 20p in the reduced section in asda, don't think I would or could pay the full £2 asking price for 4 of the tiny buggers. Also at 20p Rambutam fruit, don't even bother. Type of thing posh feckers buy just to have adorning their fruit bowl to impress others and never eat.

Can I ask, how long does tahini keep? Have eaten it before but forgot date. A month rings a bell. It's just oil and that though. . CBA going back on to Tesco to check. /lazy.

It's much longer than a month, though it will separate. I've found you can just mix it up again and it's fine.

I did have one jar for many months or maybe years, and it tasted weird, even after the mixing. It's not going to go mouldy and it won't kill you, so if it tastes fine, it will be OK.

something on the not-very odd side of the reduced section was a tub of "Coronation Coleslaw" ... still not sure if I actually *like* this.

I had some Alpro soya yoghurt yesterday bought for a visiting vegan. It was surprisingly nice (but not remotely like yoghurt). I'm going to mix it with tahini and garlic and lemon juice to make a sauce for the lamb and roasted veg I'm going to have later

Haven't tried it yet, but I just got some smoked Spanish paprika. I've never found it in stores around here and just ran into it. It might even be worth the staggering sum of $7 I paid for it.

Also known as pimenton. Last time I bought some, I paid about £3 ($5) for 100 grammes. You don't need to use a great deal (I generally use about 1/4 teaspoon per two portions of whatever I'm using it for, whether as an ingredient in a soup or stew, or as part of a seasoning mix for a marinade etc. Adds a subtle "smokey bacon" flavour.

Ground flaxseed.

I'd been chucking them in whole (and therefore wastefully) in my bread for years - along with sesame, sunflower, pumpkin and hemp, but I'm now using them partly as a weight-loss aid, and partly to systematically optimise my diet for the future with regards omega 3 and fibre ...

I'm somewhat hooked - especially with some I bought in Aldi a couple of days ago blended with sesame and blueberries which I've been eating straight from the packet - and it's quite calorie-dense.

It has been having "interesting" effects on the latter parts of digestion - but I also have a bit of lurgy that could be exacerbating it...

It's linseed. It can't help but have "interesting effects" on your bowels if you're shovelling it down, given the mucillage it'll be providing on top of your morning porridge. Too much mucillage and you'll be crapping every time you sneeze. The turds will just slide out.

They sell the biscuits in huge packs in Poundworld  The spread is pretty fucking nice too. I only ever eat mine out of the jar with a spoon, but reckon it would be nice with vanilla ice cream...

Well, I know from personal research that crushed lotus biscuits are nice with vanilla ice cream, so... :)

Can I say, your 'sex face' looks really dissapointed and you're going to murder someone. Your 'murder face' looks more like you have looked at a light in order to bring on a sneeze.
