What new foods have you tried recently?

Since Orang Utan is talking of food joy.

Not exactly tried "recently" but about this time last year Lidl had packets of maiz mote in the random stuff reduced section (it looks like corn kernel and broadbeans had a vampire baby when it's dry dry and when you cook it it sort of pops out of its skin).

I bought a packet because why not and after asking the internet how to cook it I made a South American soup called pozole rojo with it. It was pain to make but it was super tasty and I liked the little bowls of chopped lettuce and radishes and lime wedges that you serve with it to add on top at the last minute.

If it ever makes an appearance in any of the local shops again I would totally buy it and make more of the soup despite the amount of prep involved.

Don’t you ever just want to get a Deliveroo or eat a packet of biscuits, gentlegreen ?
Your diet no doubt keeps you alive, but where is the joy? Food is more than just fuel :(
I don't trust others to prepare my food for multiple reasons.
I have always eaten the same food every day and I buy all the foods in Aldi I consider sensible to eat - plus a few extras like miso and seaweed..
If I was suddenly a millionaire I wouldn't eat any differently.

I'm still dealing with the retrospective horror of having done actual quantifiable harm to myself when I deviated from an optimal diet I had adopted at 21 without the benefit of the Internet.

So hominy grits ?
Maize treated partly to free up vitamin B3 ...
I doubt the popcorn I've been eating recently has much in the way of vitamins..

The hominy I can find in the corner shop is much smaller, those were massive kernels and had a great texture thing going on when cooked.

Looks like you can buy it online for what seems an outrageous amount for a dried staple (like £8.50 for 500g with Amazon or about £10 for 250g buy the time you added shipping in the specialist shops - the soup is nice but my cheapness would take a lot away from the enjoyment of it if I paid that much for corn)
