waste of DNA sets fire to manchester dogs home

So you're not a runner or a reader of MacNeice's poetry;

If I was a self-declared man of words/letters and all that nonsense I'd have probably said "So you're neither a runner nor a reader of MacNeice's poetry" - Your way of putting it ("So you're not a runner or a reader of MacNeice's poetry") isn't wrong of course, it's just that I reckon my way scans better. And what with you reckoning to be some sort of wordsmith and all, maybe you'll appreciate a bit of a pointer?

FWIW, I've read a bit of MacNeice though I'm the first to admit poetry's not really my gig- I've given it a chance though but, apart from the odd exception, poetry just doesn't do it for me. And while I wouldn't say that's a failing on my part, it's certainly not a failing on the part of the artform - We respond to what we respond to. And we're into what we're into.

just two more things to add to the list of what you don't do...along with reflection, irony, humour and empathy. As I said keep digging you're nearly at the bottom...a couple more splenetic rants should see you there.

Louis MacNeice

Dunno about the highlighted bit - Humour, well that's subjective anyway but I've got to say I've not seen you cracking the funnies in any of your posts. Irony's a word only used by tossers - Most of whom don't even understand what it means, so we'll leave that one. Reflection, well I love my own - Does that count? And empathy? Well you're assuming a fair bit there - I regularly let people with nowhere else to go stay at my gaffe/use it as a C/O address etc on the basis of there but for the grace of god go I.

But why do you feel entitled to borrow the plumage of the poet Louis MacNeice though? What are you to him? Just coat-tailing on someone else's name - What is that about? What have you done under your own name that justifies you calling yourself a writer? Anything? At all?

And running. It doesn't make you better than anyone else. A lot of people would say it's completely pointless - You can keep yourself fit without damaging your cartilege etc. Still, it keeps you off the streets. Oh hang on, it doesn't does it? Never mind though.

Cheers. Oh dear.

E2a though - it's how one responds to the seemingly unsympathetic cases that ultimately dictates whether one's on the side of reason or reaction. Judging by your responses on this thread, I'd say you land fairly firmly in the reaction camp. Mr Borrowed plumage-nothing-of-your-own-to-offer MacNeice (not even your name, borrowed plumage again.)

Cheers. Good lord. What a mess.

Meanwhile in Lengel world...

Helping to 'batter and overwhelm' a woman after her baby had been struck by a stone = funny.

Adopting an online name and liking running = 'wankstain'.

I'll be adding a sense of proportion to the list of your non-attributes.

Proportion to what, I'm asking why you feel entitled to appropriate the name of an established poet? I'm not comparing your doing that with anything else, so I'm not altogether sure where you're getting this "proportion" thing from. And you'll be adding... And what? Who are you? Oh hang on, you're some sort of writer... Called Louis MacNeice..Oh no, wait a minute, that was someone else entirely wasn't it? Someone who made it on his own merits, had no connection to you, and didn't feel the need to coat-tail on someone else's name. Hark at Louis MacNiece oh no you're not him are you, he died a while back so hark at whoever you're supposed to be. That's never been made clear has it? In your rush to disappear behind the heavy velveteen drapes of faux moral outrage we never did get to the bottom of why you feel, as a "writer", entitled to borrow the plumage of another (established and respected) writer - I've answered most if not all of the charges you've levelled at me, and yet you seem singularly reluctant to supply the answer to that one. I'm the first one to admit my username's entirely pretentious, but I don't take myself seriously & I'm not trying to crack on I'm a writer.

Cheers.

Will Self.

No, but why do you do that? Obviously, I'm not Will Self, but my signing off as him is no less ridiculous as your signing off as MacNeice. And why sign off as anyone, as an affectation it's farcical.

Cheers

Marlene Van Nierkerk.

Frances, you just boasted about beating up a woman when you were a kid. Try as hard as you like, nobody on this thread is going to look as bad as you.

It's mine. Undisputed

Snatching purses = thieving cunt

I think everyone knows that by now - It's got fuck all to do with this thread though so your bringing it up has about the same relevance of someone bringing up, say, the fact that a sizeable faction of Everton's support in the 80's prided themselves (rightly or wrongly) on their having no non white supporters. And you're from Wigan anyway - Twenty one locks? Twenty one cocks more like. Where the fuck is Wigan? I'm guessing it's a place a bit like Bolton - Not so much in accent or architecture but just in that no one of any consequence would ever have reason to go there and the people who reside in such places? Are they even people? I'm not convinced anyway.

Cheers

Back on topic anyway...

So in a way some good's come out of a tragic situation- The dog's home as it was was housed in a victorian building that was nearing the end of it's life - At least now it'll have to be modernised and the funds are now available to make. modernisation possible. It's a real shame those dogs had to die to make modernisation possible - And I do mean that, it is a genuine tragedy. But let's have it right, if it wasn't for this atrocity the funds quite simply wouldn't be available to improve the dogs home - People would've been quite happy to keep their money in their pockets and leave the abandoned dogs out of sight out of mind. I'm not including the people who live near the dogs home in that btw, the way they rallyed round is genuinely heartwarming though but let's have it right, I'd be willing to bet a lot of the animal lovers sending donations to the home didn't even know the place existed last week.

Cheers
