So you're not a runner or a reader of MacNeice's poetry;
If I was a self-declared man of words/letters and all that nonsense I'd have probably said "So you're neither a runner nor a reader of MacNeice's poetry" - Your way of putting it ("So you're not a runner or a reader of MacNeice's poetry") isn't wrong of course, it's just that I reckon my way scans better. And what with you reckoning to be some sort of wordsmith and all, maybe you'll appreciate a bit of a pointer?
FWIW, I've read a bit of MacNeice though I'm the first to admit poetry's not really my gig- I've given it a chance though but, apart from the odd exception, poetry just doesn't do it for me. And while I wouldn't say that's a failing on my part, it's certainly not a failing on the part of the artform - We respond to what we respond to. And we're into what we're into.
just two more things to add to the list of what you don't do...along with reflection, irony, humour and empathy. As I said keep digging you're nearly at the bottom...a couple more splenetic rants should see you there.
Louis MacNeice
Dunno about the highlighted bit - Humour, well that's subjective anyway but I've got to say I've not seen you cracking the funnies in any of your posts. Irony's a word only used by tossers - Most of whom don't even understand what it means, so we'll leave that one. Reflection, well I love my own - Does that count? And empathy? Well you're assuming a fair bit there - I regularly let people with nowhere else to go stay at my gaffe/use it as a C/O address etc on the basis of there but for the grace of god go I.
But why do you feel entitled to borrow the plumage of the poet Louis MacNeice though? What are you to him? Just coat-tailing on someone else's name - What is that about? What have you done under your own name that justifies you calling yourself a writer? Anything? At all?
And running. It doesn't make you better than anyone else. A lot of people would say it's completely pointless - You can keep yourself fit without damaging your cartilege etc. Still, it keeps you off the streets. Oh hang on, it doesn't does it? Never mind though.
Cheers. Oh dear.
E2a though - it's how one responds to the seemingly unsympathetic cases that ultimately dictates whether one's on the side of reason or reaction. Judging by your responses on this thread, I'd say you land fairly firmly in the reaction camp. Mr Borrowed plumage-nothing-of-your-own-to-offer MacNeice (not even your name, borrowed plumage again.)
Cheers. Good lord. What a mess.
