I have no idea why they chose weekly rents. It's not difficult to multiply by 4 to get a 4 weekly rent or by 4.3 to get a calendar month rent.

I’ll give you a clue - it’s the same reason that in a few years time rents in London will be quoted ‘per day’.

It's a tiny complaint but it's warranted. Another mystery is when they quote pro rata salaries in job descriptions instead of what you will actually earn

It is a ballache when you're trying to scan lots of properties to work out which are in your price range before you can even get into the nitty gritty of whether it has a roof or not.

First place I ever rented was weekly. Shitty bedsit. £30 cash, every Saturday morning. If you didn't have it and went out to avoid him he'd let himself in and wait for you for a bit then just keep coming back every few hours until you paid him or fled.

Social housing tenants do. And it's not unusual to pay (private) rent 4 weekly as opposed to per calendar month, so this is clearer, because it takes both of those into account.

Theres been a number of times I’ve seen stuff in London and thought ‘that’s not too ridiculous really’ then realised it was weekly not monthly. Even seen four-figure weekly rents which is mind-boggling.

At the same time when I was a student in the dark mists of time it was normal to quote weekly rents for private places, pretty sure that’s still the case in Leeds.
