Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election

Thought they'd have put forward their previous candidate

Perhaps he was once seen going to the cinema to watch I, Daniel Blake; massive jew-hater; obvs.

hmm.

not sure what the party rules are - whether there's automatically a selection process for prospective candidates after an election where the previous candidate didn't win the seat. it may be different than where there's a sitting MP.

and looks like the selection process for the new chap was interesting...

his wikipedia page does have a section on Alleged antisemitism and comments on Israel
NB that all came out in the press back in his NUS days, before he was ever selected as parliamentary candidate in 2018. and he apologised, refuted his past mistakes, etc etc

probably just didn't fancy running again. don't see his name mentioned in the reports about the CLP getting smacked down from head office last year for blatantly trying to favour one candidate during the ward nominations for shortlisting.

This is bollocks. That one candidate was named for a special thanks along with another person. It was the last line of a long mailout about food banks. It's innocuous at best. It was a separate mailout to the shortlisting nomination ones.

It typifies Starmer's priorities for the party. This bloke was hardly a red under the bed, he's actually quite centrist, but still not the preferred candidate. So dissolve the selection committee and call it null and void.

Members are just there to get the vote out . Anything else like passing resolutions , making financial contributions to causes, deciding on candidates , is frowned upon.

He's more brown, like a turd, than red

Of course however, Labour have put a lot into compiling contact lists and touting via social media and phones in addition to soliciting medium and big donors. Whether or not they foresaw the fall in memberships is uncertain.
They absolutely would have budgeted to some extent for a fall in membership.

July 13 or 20th then. Ohh the drama.

I think I'd prefer the 20th, off to see John Healey that night, he might have something amusing to say on the situation.
