Not a Girly Swot, but I like them....
So, your tea leaves/wild ass guesses on the US 2028 presidential election...

Will there actually be an election, will there be an election in name only where the republican candidate achieves a landslide of 164% of the vote and the Dems get prosecuted for wasting the votors time - will Trump be the candidate, will one of Trump's children be the candidate, or Vance, or Musk...?

I'm going for a stitch-up, with - after an almighty fight within the administration/MAGA - one of Trump's children (probably Don Jr) taking the candidature. I doubt Trump will have wanted to stand down, but that he won't have got he constitution amended, and thinks the only way to preserve his commercial empire is to have another Trump in the White House.

Trump and Musk, and Trump and most people, will have fallen out.

There will be a wild campaign of intimidation on the non-loon Supreme Court judges to get them to stand down and be replaced by conservatives...

Care to prophesise?

No election EITHER because the union has dissolved following secession of COW states to form their own mini-nation OR full dictatorship has been achieved/lawlessness prevails in wake of attempts to impose full dictatorship.

I think it's too early to say, my general feeling is that they will rig things in there favour as much as possible (even more than it already is) without crossing the line into out and out rigging the election. Combined with control of the narrative in their favour whoever stands for the Republicans will win. Bit who really knows at this stage.

Slightly more subtle complete stitch up with massive voter suppression, gerrymandering, undesirables inexplicably finding themselves removed from rolls, plus all the disinformation etc.

Trump will be dead, so it'll be a vote for President Vance's second term.

I voted Free and Fair, or at least as free and fair as elections ever are in the US.

I predict that, even if Trump is still alive by then, he won't try to subvert the system and seek a third term. He's done his thing, made his history. I doubt he'll even care much about who comes after him.

I also predict a fair amount of chaos over the coming years, including economic chaos. Not only do I predict elections as normal in 2028, I also predict a Democrat win.

There. A post to be laughed at in years to come. ;)

It will be shit but not full on suspending / nullifying democracy. It's not necessary to change the constitution that radically, in order to achieve what passes for their aims, (controdictions therein aside.)

I doubt Trump himself would want to serve a third term but yes, lining up a successor is obvious, as all presidents do. Vs who the fuck knows from the Dems. Much damage done to institutions in the mean time and it will be a rough ride but the US right aren't going to get all their fantasies fulfilled.

Well a lot of their fantasises are simply delusional and contradictory, but it's the damage they do while trying.

There will be elections, and Trump won't be on the ballot. If he were to unilaterally declare "fuck the constitution, I AM YOUR GOD NOW", even his tamest of tame supreme courts won't roll over for that. His work is done by then anyway, if he's still alive he gets to spend the rest of his days basking in the fruits of the disgusting, morality free life that he's lived instead of wasting away in a cell.

So yeah, elections; with millions removed from voter rolls, republicans walking the street outside polling stations with guns, a carefully cultivated sense of fear and intimidation, social media (prob not Musk by then, but some other kind - Truth, probably) with a targeted campaign of disinformation, Trump loyalists in every available senior position ensuring electoral propriety. A stitch up by any other name.

It could be a Trump Jr, more likely it's Vance. Either way, they're all just keeping the seat warm for fucking Barron.

The trade wars with China and the EU will turn into a real war. The Trump camp will have purged the higher echelons of the military, replacing anyone above a two star general with their donors. This will lead to an unbelievable collapse in the US army and air force whilst the Navy and Marine Corp defect en mass to the UK.

Canada will apply to join the EU and all of New England and New York State along with Washington State will take part in an Anschluss to be merged with that EU Canada.

California and Hawaii will leave the Union to form an independent Pacific republic that allies with a resurgent Taiwan in their alliance with Japan, Singapore and Malaysia in capturing more Chinese cities following the PLA collapse after TSMC activate their malware in all components sold to the Chinese war machine.

Texas tries to dominate the rump US but Florida opposes this and a state of armed hostility leads to the election basically being the opening salvo of armed conflict between the south and west powers.

The MAGA candidate could be in a good position to win - two of the main things Trump campaigned on doing, cutting inflation and sharply reducing border crossings, have already been achieved so his second term might be seen as a success if he sits back and changes very little, same as how he'd be richer if he'd put his inheritance in mutual funds instead of spending money on failed businesses like Trump Airlines.

But if he tries to implement many of his campaign promises, like 500% tariffs and getting Elion Musk to cut government spending by $2 trillion, he's likely to fuck things up so badly that even Fox News can't ignore it

I ticked 'other' because I don't think there'll be no election as they'll want something more performative. Dictators these days don't generally want to be too obvious about being dictators. I don't think it'll be a total fix either as that would also be too obvious and could have international repercussions (at least economically). Voter suppression will be massive though. This will allow Democrats only a more reduced minority in the houses but their mere existence there would maintain the democratic pretence. Four years later again, Democrats will be wiped out.

I think the one safe prediction is that Trump will fall out with everyone especially the Emperor of Mars who is just as egotistic as he is. Neither of them can play nice with others for very long.
I don't think Trump will serve out his full term tbh, age aside he isn't really interested once he's dodged prison. I'm not sure that he will see out 2025 come to that, no matter how much they praise him publicly the Republican Party know what a loose cannon he is. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a palace coup next year installing Vance as POTUS. I doubt this will go as smoothly as the plotters will hope for. I think they're deluding themselves that Votes for the Orange Shitgibbon are Votes for the GOP and they aren't. The MAGA cultists probably won't take too kindly to their prophet being replaced by the Establishment. There's also going to be another election before 2028, a third of the Senate and the entire House will have to restand in 2026 in Senate seats that largely favour the Dems. Since America Will Not Actually Be Great Again by then it's not impossible that Trump or more likely Vance will be a lame duck president hemmed in by a Democratic House and Senate. One other fairly safe prediction that I feel I can make is that the Democrats will fail miserably to learn any lessons from their recent defeat and if they do make any gains it will be entirely on the basis of the GOP being even more unpopular.
I think the world and even US democracy will survive the next 2-4 years however if you are a POC (especially Hispanic), LGBTQ, a woman or even just poor (especially poor) American then your life is going to be pretty shit for a few years.

I think it will be Donald Trump Jr. vs California governor Gavin Newsom, which will put Kimberly Guilfoyle - Newsom's ex-wife and Trump Jr.'s fiancee - in a possibly unique historical position.
So she would know some dirt on newson if she is his ex :hmm: probably makes him a bad choice then.

Trump, Trump, Trump, Trumpity-Trump Trump Trump.

If they have any sense they'll do what they should have done four years ago, which is go to him on the QT and say "we'll have the court cases dropped so long as you agree to fuck off and never come back."

It may be too late for that, of course.

There will be an election, and it will even be free and fair, for the simple reason that the Democrats have demonstrated definitively that they are a useless shower of incompetents. "Like being savaged by a dead sheep" is the key term here.

Which court cases? The federal cases are already being dropped because Trump will be in control of the Justice Department by the end of January

No idea - it probably depends on how far "Project 2025" has gone in achieving their aims by then - and if they succeed in re-writing the constitution.

Very sadly, I predict that much of 'merican society, such as it is, will regress to pre-WW2 conditions and will become even more isolationist than it was then [but without seeing "reds under the beds"] - modern technology & developments notwithstanding.
It will take many years to come back from that and develop into a proper, modern, society.

I wonder if California / New York will secede from the "union" ...
And I have no idea what will become of the United Nations, NATO nor how hard the nuclear football will bounce when it is fumbled ...

I don't think any state will officially secede. I also don't think that the federal government will be "drowned in the bathtub" as the more excitable Republicans want. The pork barrel is just too attractive a proposition to be fully abolished.

What we might see would be states like California and Texas "pushing the envelope" in terms of maximising their autonomy, similar to the way Quebec does in the Canadian federation.

Barron? Barron doesn't even look as if he knows where he is, deffo something wrong there.

Initial bombast and triumphalism during the early stages while enacting more of the targeting of migrants that we saw in his first term, though perhaps on a greater scale. Goes a bit mad trying to please his maga base amidst disapproval and getting bogged down with it all.

Economic shocks and more climate turmoil to likely feature, though media 'strategies' will keep his head above water with public opinion for a time.

General dissatisfaction and gloom, plus the guy's personal physical and mental deterioration, will lead to it being more of a family affair after the mid-terms. Trump Jr and such like trying to bolster their brand and credentials before necessity to keep the system functioning, for those who like it, will lead to more experienced/less batshit figures being pulled in to keep their hands on the levers as they limp towards '28.

Unknown candidate for Republicans to be on a sticky wicket and lose to a better run Dem campaign. In and among all this, no major wars hopefully; though I expect the middle-east and Iran to be dominant in terms of sabre rattling and limited strikes/hostilities.

Barron is the spit of Trump - his build, his vacant eyes, the way he walks leaning forward.

Don Jr and Eric are likely disappointments to Trump Sr - they're symbolic of his past lives with long discarded wives. Ivanka is a woman as well, possibly the one trait that could derail the whole republican project as at least a portion of their support base wouldn't stand for it.

"President Trump" is where he derives his sense of self-satisfaction, that put the official seal on his business "success"; Melania (as much as it looks like she despises him) is alongside him in the defining moments of his life, and Barron is a continuation of that.

He's 18, so obviously there's nothing to suggest public office yet. But there's already been the first whisperings of fluffy press to give him attention - things like how he told his dad what podcasts to go on, what interviews to do, how to reach a younger audience etc. Trump is a lifelong vanity project, what appeals to vanity more than a political dynasty to rival and overtake the Kennedys?

Bookmark it now, in 20 years I'll be back here as an old man to say I told you so.
