Urban75 Album of the Year 2010

Maybe I'm out of sync with U75 these days, plus I didn't vote, but of the top 50 I only own Gil Scott-Heron (it'd be my number 1). I'd find space for Steve Mason, Emma Pollock, Venetian Snares, MIA and Autechre, although in what order I don't know.

Nice one belboid.

A worthy winner, even if I didn't vote for it, which I should have - and the Gil Scott Heron one too. Still I had a record bustin' 7 of my top 20 in there:

These New Puritans (my #20)
Toro y Moi (19)
Oneohtrix Point Never (14)
LCD Soundsystem (5)
Liars (1)
Sleigh Bells (17)
Best Coast (4)

Disappointed that neither Ariel Pink or Zola Jesus didn't even make the top 50 though. Shame on you.

Wow, nine of my nineteen made it into the Top 50 but my favourite ones are around the lower reaches and number 1 didn't feature at all despite a dodgy alliance with dogbot.

Anyway, not grumbling. Just nice to see the comparisons in taste around here and THANKS for doing this belboid.

Congratulations on the effort Belboid.

I think we can all agree (as I had said on the nominations thread) that this year was a bit crap for music. This list surely shows it. I was pressed to think of any ideas worthy of nominations.

Good work though.

Only four I own and many I was totally unaware of so lots of new year purchases to look forwrd to , thanks a lot Beboid always look forward to this thread .

cheers

Respect to Belboid for putting this altogether.

Gives a chance for this old git to see whats going down wit the kids -

The Fall album was pretty good, Legendary Shack Shakers I will def look look out for live and Sticklands Bank's Marvyn Gaye impression was pretty spot on.

Have to say I was dissappointd by the absence of any spot on guitar bands and there being far too much ambient twaddle - lay off the weed urban ffs and get back on the speed.

I kind of agree. The Fall is album is good, but I'm far from convnced it was that good. But there was no really cracking guitar alternative for blokes of a certain age.

As to ambientness.... I really like the Caribou, but loads of the others sound like they've just heard Sabres of Paradises' Haunted Dancehall thing

Caribou for No1 I recon.
Mogwai
?

Yeah Mogwais last album was something very special, I thought it could have made more of a splash, maybe because they just bring out a new album every couple years without fail, and they all follow a similar pattern, but if you havent listened since CODY you should check out the new album as it is a much richer experience than their earlier works

may have come out slightly early for spotty, but it was deffo the beginning of the actual year. I recall it well as I ran out to buy it

Cheers for putting this together Belboid.. been listening to Th' Legendary Shack Shakers almost non stop since seeing them here and listening to it on spotify. Like Kaka Tim, I'll be looking out for them playing live - they are in Spain in 2011 so I'm going to email them and ask them if there's any chance of a gig in the UK, pref. Birmingham :)
