Urban75 Album of the Year 2010

10 LCD Soundsystem – This Is Happening

The third and last album from James Murphy contains yet more meaty synths combined with an unerring knowledge and understanding of the essential seventies troika, Brian, David and Iggy. Chuck in some daft lyrics, some clever ones, and some self deprecating ones, and you’ve one hell of a way to bow out.

8 Sleigh Bells - Treats

For a long time, it looked like this could actually be the Number 1. Then sense took hold. Variously described as an ‘exciting clash between electronic disco and thrash metal’, ‘challeging’, ‘enthralling’,‘inexorable shit’ and ‘the album which makes you look forward to the spotify ads’, you can be sure of one thing. Bing Crosby it is not.

Aloe Blacc just came on on the UAotY Spotty playlist.

What's a very very light, watery, version of green called? It like Al <whatever that word is>

Come on then, I want your Top 5 predictions while I go and make my mince pies.

What's still missing?

Weren't you wanking yourself over Cee Lo's unbelievably ordinary efforts earlier this year, too? :D

Hey, what can I say. Apparently, if a rapper's going to do something a bit different, he needs to be fat to carry it in the eyes of Urban.

Thankfully, Stones Throw don't give a fuck. :)

The Cee Lo is a fine example of what happens when the mainstream gets its teeth into a really fucking awful record because it has a slightly edgy single. :D

Getting known for Gnarls Berkley is the single worst thing that ever happened to him. Probably not to his wallet, but to his artistic credibility. :(

I think i saw an interview with him last year complaining that that Gnarls Berkley song has ruined their careers (or words to that effect) in that no one will listen to their new stuff, and are fixated on that one track (whatever it was called). Looks like the griping paid off for him!

The top 5 albums will be:

5. JLS - Outta This World
4. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
3. Justin Bieber - My World
2. Cheryl Cole - Messy Little Raindrops
1. Susan Boyle - The Gift

Two of my top ten in the Urban rundown. Something must be very wrong with the world indeed.

I forgot to vote for Warpaint, annoyingly. That was good too.

C'mon the top five already!

I've got 4 out of my 20 so far, which is surely far better than any other year I've been here.

But imagining what the top 5 will be doesn't give me a lot of hope for getting to 5.

Although you never know. I thought the Cave-by-the-numbers would be higher... :D
