Urban75 Album of the Year 2002

I tell you what. Submit any compilations you want separately and I'll do a little roll call for them.
This was a golden age for funk and disco compilations.

Obviously, they've been around since the music was new and the disco era was barely over before rare groove comps came along, but the amount of them was probably peaking about this time. There were loads of comps coming out that dug deeper far beyond the obvious hits. There still are, but in the Spotify era when all this music is only a click away and has been compiled already, they're few and far between and are more like £90 for a box set of 7"s for collectors rather than £15 for a double vinyl with a load of awesome tracks you'd never heard before.

These are all from 2002 and are all excellent:

Texas Funk: Hard Texas Funk 1968-1975
Funk Drops 2 (Breaks, Nuggets And Rarities From The Vaults Of Atlantic, ATCO, Reprise And Warner Bros Records 1968-1975)
SuperFunk3.
Stax Of Funk Vol. 2 (More Funky Truth)
Disco Juice Volume 2
Disco Connection (Authentic Classic Disco 1976 - 1981)
Disco Not Disco 2 (Leftfield Disco Classics From The New York Underground)
Ghana Soundz (Afro-beat, Funk & Fusion In 70’s Ghana)

And since you've set me off about compilations...

weve got benny horsepower down for our next gig in a couple of weeks :dude:

I've been meaning to get down to south London to see a mate and try and coincide with a Das Booty night, but I'd travel for Benny Ill as well. Unfortunately I've got some family stuff on at the mo that I have to see through. If you're still doing yer thing later in the year we may rock up.

Ah yes the first Twisted Individual album too - naughty jump up DnB

tracklist
Thumb Screw
Crap Rinse Out
Bitch Muzzle
Trench Foot
Gimp Mask
Colostomy Bag
Throbbing Gristle
Daffodils :D

There's quite a lot I still like from 02, but I don't think I'll get it all out here tonight. I seemed to have loads of glitchy, minimal albums. but I'll sift them tomorrow or sometime..

Tonight there's Speedy J - Loudboxer

Phil Asher Presents Focus - sweet & sour

and Satanicpornocultshop - Ugh Yoing which has its moments

Probably doesn't count because it's a compilation of EP's but Wauvenfold's 3-Fold was released in 2002 for fans of glitchy ambient stuff.

Question for Knotted

Do collections of previously unreleased radio sessions count?

Here's something to listen to while considering your answer

Turns out Chicks on Speed, Peaches, and Goldfrapp all released albums in 2003 instead, and Le Tigre went with 2001 and 2004, so there goes my guess that 2002 was probably a good year for electroclash. Anything else that came out then?

First LCD Soundsystem single was 2002, but I suppose that's technically "not an album" too.
