Urban75 Album of the Year 2002

I feel like Dalek should've scored higher if they managed to get votes from three different people, but then I don't know how the scoring system works.

Three lowish votes though. In at 55 by my scoring. belboid scoring would have them in the low 30's. I'll put that up shortly.

Anyway, my list was:

Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
McClusky - McClusky Do Dallas
Tragedy - Vengeance
Songs: Ohia - Didn’t It Rain
Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
Tullycraft - Beat Surf Fun
World/Inferno Friendship Society - Just the Best Party
The Epoxies - S/T
Gogol Bordello - Multi Kontra Culti
Ladytron - Light & Magic
Hot Hot Heat - Make Up the Breakdown
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Distillers - Sing Sing Death House
Dalek - From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots
Rotten Sound - Murderworks
Libertines - Up the Bracket
Antipop Consortium - Arrythmia

Compilations:

Oh-Ok - The Complete Recordings
Lifter Puller - Soft Rock
Millions of Dead Cops - Now More Than Ever
Skitsystem - Allt E Skit
Articles of Faith - Complete vol 1
Jawbreaker - Etc

Blimey, not a good showing for the Libertines, come to think of it. Did anyone rate them higher up than I did?

Some stats

19 Submissions
341 Individual entries
195 Distinct albums

Lots of enthusiasm for this year. Geogaddi got 10 votes whereas Cash only got 8 but nobody put the former as no.1 Would have been a tie for first place under belboid scoring. Those two were miles ahead of the pack.

No, would have been a win for Geodaddi under mine - I think. It got more votes, so that should nudge it ahead.

If anybody cares my comps were:

The Rough Guide to Hungarian Music
Ghana Soundz
Metro Area
Fennesz - Field Recordings (1995-2002)
Improvised Music from Japan

I re listened to this in preparation for the first time in years the other week. I had expected it to place around 10th in my list but then....fuck me, it's awful. Just horrible and twee mostly, overproduced whimsy. Do You Realise? just about holds up.

It's giving me vibes of this

Which is also not as good as you remember it.

She played near me in 2007, but tickets sold out instantly, like in minutes. I was surprised that a retro funk/soul act was so in demand. That's when I found out The Dap Kings were Amy Winehouse's backing band on Back to Black. Never did get to see her.

I nearly voted for both of those BYO splits but thought the NOFX/Rancid one in particular wouldn't count as it was all covers but thinking about it I was being a bit thick. Iirc they released it in two colours one with the NOFX songs first and the other with Rancid songs first. Orange and green I think.

I met a girl in 2008 on a sound recording course. One of out first conversations was about the Anti-Flag/Bouncing Souls split. We're married now.
