Urban75 Album of the Year 2002

=37 Beck - Sea Change

I liked Beck in the 90's but he was still doing some very interesting things in 2000's as well. Who knew? Well one of you did.

Well this is very interesting. I like to start with the joy and pain of the lonely no.1's and they're well down at joint 36. This means we have a massive canon of 35 albums where there's reasonable consensus. It's going to be a long night.

So I don't get inappropriately excited like I did last time, can you confirm this means albums that only one person has voted for?

Angry post-punk but with some complex song structures. Employing the rock tropes of its time to good effect and there's more going on than with most.

(Sorry you're just going to be getting my hot takes)

That's what I like to see. Some MPB. A breezy poppy delight. Note this Mariza is not be confused with Portuguese singer.

Lyrical americana/folk rock/driving punky rock. I get the feeling there was a lot hope this one would do well. I'm so sorry. I will say that this is one of the few rock albums from this year that doesn't sound like it's from 2002. Dated very well.

So if only one person voted for something, but didn't put it at no.1, it won't be mentioned in your countdown?
I never included the lonely Number 1's either. More than one person has to vote for a record for not it be part of an actual Chart, imo.

And considering once again we have proven none of you fuckers ever vote for my Number 1, not announcing them as such would at least delay my inevitable irritability.

Don't worry there's more irritation to come.

The reason I was asking is because I got confused when Knotted was counting down the 1992 chart into thinking that something that I'd voted for hadn't yet been mentioned, and so was still to appear, only to be disappointed when it turned out only I had voted for it.

Trying to ensure I avoid similar unrealistic raised expectations being ultimately dashed this time around...

From here on it's albums with at least two votes. But let's take a moment to appreciate those personal favourites that everybody else very accidentally forgot. However annoyed you are feeling you will feel better after a slice of Delgados.

Yass! Nine Inch Nails got at least two votes.

I'm happy with that.
Not necessarily unless you put them top. I expect they have got a few though. If only one person voted for them and it wasn't their first choice then they would be lower than 38. Even if they have multiple votes not including a top spot they could be lower than 38.

30 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O.

Doesn't feel quite as epic as their previous release. But to be fair it is indeed slow. Very slow. And yes very post. Also what a great cover!
