Urban75 Album of the Year 1981

Clara Mondshine - Luna africana
Another album of German instrumental electronics, from this alias of Walter Bachauer, Klaus Schulze on production.

The first and best album by the Meteors. When the band included Nigel Lewis on vocals and bass, and didn’t just revolve around Paul Fenechs overblown ego.

Change - Miracles
Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires
Suzy Q ‎– Get On Up And Do It Again
Sonya Spence - Sings Love
Liaisons Dangereuses ‎– Liaisons Dangereuses
Oby Onyioha ‎– I Want To Feel Your Love
René & Angela ‎– Wall To Wall
Ray Parker Jr. And Raydio ‎– A Woman Needs Love
Billy Ocean ‎– Nights
Evelyn King ‎– I'm In Love

That'll do

Shall we mention this rather obvious one. Surely a contender to top the list.
Human League - Dare
Martyn Ware & Ian Craig Marsh had left to form B.E.F and Heaven 17. Martin Rushent works his magic on production.
Synth-pop perfection.

predict it's not even going to place, despite being a really great LP

Looking through popsike at the highest-value records with 1981 in the description - in 1971 it was mostly private press psychedelic folk stuff, but in 1981 it's pretty much all hardcore punk and NWOBHM 7" singles

Germs released Germicide in 1981, which is a recording of their first every gig. By any objective measure it's terrible, and yet it's also somehow one of the most exciting live albums I own. Darby is totally out of tune and rarely in time with the band, who can barely hold it together anyway. Wonderful stuff.

Is this an album?

Discogs says yes, but it only has two songs, and one is the inst of the A side. :hmm:
I reckon it's best not to ask these questions if you're planning on including them on your list, cause you alert belboid and he might decide otherwise. two 20-odd minute sides looks like an album to me tho

Imagination - Body Talk
Strong Chicago House vibes on this track, acknowledged by Frankie Knuckles to be influential to early house music.

I mimed to Just An Illusion at infants for a reason that has long been lost in time ;D

Imagination videos are a fun retro watch
