Urban75 Album of the Year - 1977

12 The Congos - Heart of the Congos

Technically a slightly dubious entry, as the version you voted for almost definitely wasn't the one originally released in '77. Still, wtf, it's a bloody classic.

Actually, I'm not totally certain what the 6th album is - I've got Bowie, Bowie, Sex Pistols, Clash and Kraftwerk. Who's the other one?

3 The Clash - The Clash

No Elvis, Beatles or Rolling Stones. No Clash at Number 1 either, even though they were at 11pm last night. Still a pretty damned good album.

The canon is too strong for older years - I expect we might have more surprises if we did, say, 97. Although OK Computer would probably still win.
There was a Nick Cave album, and a David Bowie. But they wouldn't win it. 1957 & 1987 should be less obvious though.

I didn't bother voting in the 67 poll, because I knew it would just be deciding which order some canon albums I don't care too much about came in - an action I regret seeing as the doors made number 1.

Junior Murvin and Punkentelechy only narrowly missed out (assuming that that vote for Junior Marvin isn't referring to an obscure artiste I am unaware of), and AC/DC got the most votes without making it even near the chart. I'd have thought the Damned might do better, but apparently not.
