I grew up with the received wisdom that in the early 60s music was in the doldrums after rock'n'roll had died until the British Invasion came along and saved the day. Having dug through 62/63/64 the last few years music seemed to be doing just fine. Of course, that's with 60 years' retrospect and the internet to travel the world listening to anything I want.
