I only put 4 up, most of the stuff I bought this year wasn't new stuff

1. Richard Hawley - Standing at the Sky's Edge
2- The Unthanks - Songs from the Shipyards
3 -The Long Insiders - The Sound of Cat Gut and Engine Oil
4 - Aimee Mann - Charmer

I'm not up to date enough to offer any lists or opinions on most of the entries. I do like the Seer though, I like it lots. It's very likable and easy on the ears unlike some of Swans earlier material. I've just worked out what it reminds me of. Mike Oldfield - circa Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn. Especially A Piece of the Sky. It doesn't strike me as a ground breaking record or some sort of land mark or some great achievement. Just a very enjoyable little listen. I'm a bit disappointed it's won, I'd hoped there would be something that's topped it.

I did listen to a few tracks off the number one urban album - didn't do much for me tbh - I have ordered 2 albums off the urban chart (I did the same last year) The XXX, and the singing Adams

Crackin' album - I think I put it in my top 3 - the stand out track being this one which comes mid way through

The album gradually builds until the kick drums finally drop on this one - sheer bliss...

I like the way it just bumbles along, changing but nothing dramatic or showy, it's quite lovely.

did you post a list braindancer? I cant see it and would like to

I did :)

1. Actress - RIP
2. Recondite - On Acid
3. Robert Hood - Motor: Night time world 3
4. Swans - The Seer
5. Voices from the Lake - STL
6. Sun Araw, M. Geddes Gengras, The Congos - FRKWYS - Vol. 9
7. Instrumental Tourist - Tim Hecker and Daniel Lopatin
8. Claro Intelecto - Reform Club
9. Lukid - Lonely at the top
10. Lee Gamble - Diversions

22 Death Grips - The Money Store

the-money-store.jpg

They've been persistently tagged as "rap rock" for context, but it's not a very useful description of their music. Let’s just say Death Grips are angry. It's unclear why. But their thirst for vengeance, their monomaniacal desire to visit fiery destruction on the powers-that-be, is crystal-clear.

Should be way higher.

The urban music forum has failed, we should rename it NME.

For the second year running the Urban list has completely missed the best album of the year. One reason for this is that both of the these two albums came out virtually in the last week of the year so were not included in the voting for that year but were also not eligible for the next year's vote.
2011 - On December 31st Sbtrkt released their self-titled debut album.
2012 - On December 19th North of Ping Pong released their debut Don't Struggle
Both Albums on Spotify.
Very catchy and pure quality and originality throughout. But here are a couple of standout tracks from these two Albums of the year.

Sbtrkt - Pharaohs

North of Ping Pong - The Lairy Bitch Project

I have made a note to this effect, and will point out that albums released after December 11th will be eligible for the 2013 vote

Haven't seen them live but totally disagree about forgettable. Those tunes get inside your head (in a good way). Although its primarily headphone music they appear to do a live show of sorts.

Listened to a mix by one on the boiler room t'other day, first thing I'd heard..... me likey.

They have good mixes on there generally.

(PT2) http://www.kmag.co.uk/editorial/blogs/drum-and-bass/top-20-dnb-albums-of-2012-part-2.html

Didn't submit a top ten here but did post one elsewhere online, quite a few feature in that article though I disagree with some of the placings.

1. DRS - I Don't Usually Like MC's But
2. Black Sun Empire - From The Shadows
3. Calyx & Teebee - All or Nothing
4. Plan B - Ill Manors
5. Maverick Sabre - Lonely Are The Brave
6. S.P.Y - What The Future Holds
7. Enei - Machines
8. Reverend & The Makers - @Reverend_Makers
9. High Contrast - The Agony & The Ecstasy
10. Spectrasoul - Delay No More

Since coming up with the 10 I have listened to Calyx & Tebee a lot more and would probably have it at number 2 now.

Missed the fact SPY ahd an album - like some of his 12s, will give that a listen for sure. I should really check the DRS thing, but despite the album name I really dont like MCs!!
