Ukraine and the Russian invasion, Feb 2022 - tangentially related crap

Theres the empty quarter but that's towards the bottom of the Saudi pennisula

The Empty Quarter is particularly daunting, but most of the country is a giant fucking desert. I lived in Jubail on the East coast and the desert started about five minutes walk from my front room. After one of my housemates turned of the irrigation system that kept our lemon tree and banana plant alive, it effectively started by the back door.

The South West is quite tropical, which is why if you're going to Abha Province be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

I reckon a few posters on here could have fallen for this one...

Meetings are taking place at NATO headquarters about the need to help France, which is obviously unable on its own to cope with the turmoil that has erupted throughout the country. Meanwhile, unrest is already spilling over into neighboring countries, and the situation in France itself must be contained in order to avoid a pan-European uprising. This can only be done with the help of the armed forces.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

The application of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is considered impossible because France was not attacked externally.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is considering the possibility of involving the forces of Ukrainian paramilitary formations – such as the Azov, Kraken and other battalions, which have extensive experience in urban combat operations not only against external enemies, but also against internal opponents of the current Ukrainian government – to suppress the French unrest.

Involving paramilitary forces of a NATO partner country to suppress internal disturbances in a NATO country would require the legal formalization of a new practice for the organization, but the need for such a decision is obvious, and the procedure can be formalized as soon as possible.

German TV has a nice interview of a Leo 2A6 team who got hit by a Russian ATGM and survived the hit:

Shows how modern western armor, while not invulnerable or indestructible, can make a difference.

I doubt a 2A4 would have survived that hit though, it looks like it went deep into the main armor after getting through the arrow wedges slat armor on the front of the turret. Without those wedges it would have probably gone through.

Sky News showed a quite harrowing clip about an Irish 'volunteer' Rhys Byrne fighting for Ukraine packing up and leaving.

Rhys described himself as not only a former Irish soldier but also as a former Executive Protection Officer. However, in his modesty, he didn't mention that he also had studied Buddhism for five years, and had spent time studying with monks in India before becoming Ireland's first Buddhist Demonologist and indeed Ireland's first teenage demon fighter.

In an article in the Cork News some time before he decided to fight in Ukraine he explained how he had become a teenage demon fighter

"At an early age I realized that I was different to most kids. And I could see and speak to dead people, and see them in the format that they died. This was scary as a child but something that I learned to work with."

"When I came out of a coma at 15 it came in stronger than usual. I found the normal spiritual stuff of mediumship wasn't enough and I needed to do more, so I said I'd take on demonic. It kicked off from there. That's what I am good at."

Represented by someone called Fintan Cullen of The Entertainment Factory as an actor he became involved in the promotion of Ultimate Haunted Ireland. He listed his skills on the Entertainemnt Site as :

The Satanic threat in the Russian-Ukraine war seems to have died down and Rhys has gone back to Ireland.

I know its the Sun, but all the same, a very human story of how Lithuania is trying to engage ordinary Russians in the conflict.

Fucking loon, shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a pointy stick, let alone given actual weapons.

I'm not a ban sort of person for many things but for the sake of the Hillsborough victims please consider not posting or linking directly from the Sun . Paraphrase the content by all means although no doubt you'll find alternative sources about the same story

I hear from Russian friends that banks over there have started freezing accounts of those people who have donated money to organisations helping Ukrainian refugees within Russia, even donors of small sums. As far as they know, no official statement has been made on this, but a question has been asked in the State Duma.

Not in any way surprising, but the FT is reporting that big tech bros want a piece of that juicy arms dealing pie.
Among some business leaders there is a perverse sense of enthusiasm for testing out new products. Alex Karp claims his company, Palantir, is making a decisive difference in favour of Ukraine, for example through their AI that supports identifying targets.
The controversial AI company Clearview is facing fines for violating privacy rules in Europe, but proved keen to offer its technologies to hundreds of Ukrainian officials. They use it, for example, to identify Russian soldiers who have been killed, or those still alive and committing war crimes or looting. The free use of its systems in Ukraine is aimed, no doubt, not only at supporting Ukraine but also at polishing Clearview’s embattled reputation.

Russian spaceship, go fuck yourself

But the first goal was to prove that Russia still can launch a lunar landing mission after numerous failures in the past, generations of turnover among its scientific experts, delays due to western-imposed sanctions and now isolation because of its war in Ukraine.

He's Ireland's youngest demon fighter, I understand. I read that... somewhere

It’s not actually being destroyed though, that’s been debunked, they’re just turning it into a regular military cemetery with the pyramidal headstones rather than wooden crosses, families are aware and supportive and it’s been done to other similar grave sites already. Someone making a controversy out of nothing, much as we’d like it to be true.

Yan Petrovsky, one of the founders of the Russian neo-Nazi mercenary group Rusich, has been nicked in Finland.

Rusich forces now said to be pulling out of Ukraine as the Russian authorities aren't doing anything to help Petrovsky.

Do you have a source for that bit in bold?

Can’t find the tweet I saw, but this is similar. They’ve been doing this to a lot of war cemeteries, many of which were hastily created as muddy fields with wooden crosses, now concrete with pyramid grave markers.
