Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

Do you know if you take a faulty item back to lidl with out a receipt, they can't refund you. You have to phone a customer service line who take all your details, then send you a letter, by post, only then can you return the item with the letter, to get your money back. GrrrrH!
You must have had bad luck or a bad tempered cashier at your local Lidl. Mrs maomao is constantly buying stuff and taking it back.

without a receipt?
The cashier was perfectly lovely, called manager who confirmed I need a code on a letter, and wrote the phone number of their customer service dept down for me.
I was only annoyed that I had to carry the lamp home again with my shopping.

I am happy to report that Aldi’s Uco Valley Malbec from Argentina is very enjoyable, and superb value at £5.79.

I had some flapjack things from Aldi a while back, and when you actually opened the box and took them out of the unnecessary individual wrappings they were about a third of the size of the box. Total con.

It did piss me off a bit more than usual, because one thing I like about Aldi/Lidl is they tend to treat you less like a prick than the big old supermarkets - none of the offers that aren't really offers (things reduced from a fictional price that they were never regularly sold at) and other such tricks.

Misleading packaging does seem to be trend lately, e.g.choccy bars getting brexited but wrappers staying the same size so you don't notice immediately. Not only are you getting less, but more waste than necessary is also being generated.

Aldi are doing a really peng olive oil. It's about a fiver for a bottle but its the best I've ever tasted at that price. Can't remember the name but its the most expensive there and comes in a rectangular bottle

The rapeseed oil Aldi does is brilliant too. Less than 2 squids a bottle. Lovely flavour.

We went to Aldi yesterday for a change (usually Sainsbury’s). I couldn’t get chives, celery, leeks, tinned tomato soup or cannelini beans. I’m prepared to accept no chives but not the others.

Shopping at Aldi/Lidl doesn’t work as a full shop for me sadly.

Strange that - chives aside (never looked for them) all the other items are always stocked at my local Aldi. I buy a pack of leeks every week, the celery is by the salad, and the soup and cannellini beans are a little way along from the oils. I can see them now in my mind. Look, there they are!

I do find Aldi to be hit and miss, even all or nothing, on some stuff, but not those staples.

Lidl have been doing a very reasonable soya milk for a while - but I havent found any there for the last few visits. Have they discontinued doing it or has my Lidl just run out?

Impossible to know for the time being! I am still pissed off that they no longer do buffalo mozzarella, and that the yoghurt no longer comes on 1kg tubs. Aldi also seems to have discontinued its buffalo mozzarella. #firstworldproblems

Those little buckets of yoghurt were great and the empty containers were useful for my daughter's paint brushes, pens etc
One of the Lidl staff near me said customers preferred the flimsy plastic pots so that's why they've changed over permanently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Asda are now doing them 1l tubs starting at 97p

Tesco do 1kg tubs of greek yogurt but its not as nice. Better tubs for paintbrushes though. :)

The XL men's outdoor gear (base layers and hoodies) are very very nice and extra long in the body. I'm over 6'6 and they cover most of my hips.

Apparently Aldi are selling their outdoor pizza oven thingies again pre-order from 08.04.18 online. I think they are about £80-£90? They sit on top of a new grill.

They're also doing one you pop onto your bbq for £40. Granted, it's a bbq-sized pizza stone with a lid so it seems expensive for what it is. I still might pick one up - it's hard to find a stone that fits on the bbq.

Heads up for Aldi reductions - 'love food hate waste' policy.

Aldi now discount all products going out of date the next day by 50% the evening before. This means if you go in about 6.30pm you can get bakery, fruit, veg and chilled products at half price and still with an extra day to use.

The time as store specific I reckon, been to 2 different stores this week around 5.30 and had a load of stuff reduced and easy to spot with a red band 50% off label.

Often still have stuff that’s gone the day before. One thing aldi is always crap at is getting rid of the out of date stuff.

Just popped into Aldi on the way to work. They’ve got really good furniture (indoor and garden) as their special today. The chap in store said that, compared to Argos, it’s all half price. Lots of people there bright and early - don’t think there’ll be anything left at the end of the day. Mrs SFM nearly bought a lovely rattan “bucket seat” garden set until I pointed out that we haven’t got any room. I’ve now been told to clear the garage so we’ll be prepared next time a similar offer comes around. :)

I've been liking the Salmon Wellington at Lidl. Only £4 and could last me three meals with a bit of veg on the side. Sorted.
